Shown below is Cyan Banister

CEO and Entrepreneur, Fuchsia McInerney, names the top ten women in social media who are pioneering the industry and making a name for themselves.

Sexy and technology aren’t always two words you hear together. In fact women and technology aren’t two words you hear together that often, unless it’s highlighting the overwhelming lack of the former within the latter. That said, these ten women represent high-powered entrepreneurs, executive, artists and techies who are defying statistics, pioneering the industry and making a name for themselves.

From ecommerce to marketing to blogging, spanning from corporate to indie, our top ten have taken the high-tech industry by storm, and quite frankly, they look good doing it!

As an update, I would like to point out that each of the women whose bio's and images appear below, selected the images for publication and wrote the information paragraph about themselves. As each of them have requested that images or descriptions be updated, we have been pleased and eager to do so...

"Exploitation?" I think not...

Savvy marketing professionals who know the value of "Personal Branding? I think so.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The message reposted below was sent to Keith Shetterly by the original article's author in regards to several ADM Member comments in the thread below:

"I had difficulty posting on the thread, but you are welcome to quote my thoughts below if you'd like."

"As the author of the original post, as well as an alum of the largest women's college in the United States, a mother of three, and a CEO running a company predominantly staffed by men, managed by women, in an industry dominated by men, I would never post something that I felt disrespected or objectified women. Conversely, this piece was designed to attract publicity to prominent women in this field and their projects, all of whom agreed to participate with enthusiasm, provided photos, bios, etc., with a catchy headline and a light-hearted twist. Overwhelmingly and with very few exceptions, this has been the result.

Depending on a multitude of circumstances, it's justifiable enough to jump atop the soapbox and protest the objectification of women. In this case, however, what is sexy? Is it their success, their high-powered positions, their innovation in the industry? I think those things are likely far sexier than the photos that they submitted, and I think that the vast majority of people who read this can appreciate that as well. This, ultimately, is why they were chosen for this piece.

I can't speak to the automotive industry personally and I haven't read the entire comment thread here, but hopefully, some of the commentaries were productive, progressive and educational, if a little controversial."

I was just kidding! You did a lot of work. Good job :)

Comment by Ralph Paglia on February 28, 2013 at 4:50pm

OK, fair enough... I thought about the men that I know in the business who are physically fit, well poised, consistently well dressed, seem to me to be handsome in a masculine way and out of them, which ones had made significant contributions to the auto industry...

1. Grant Cardone is simply Grant Cardone... This guy gets me so fired up that I leave his events with a productivity rate triple of that when i entered. His representation of the car business outside of automotive channels on national TV, Huffington Post, books, etc. has improved the public's perception of the retail auto industry. And, I am pretty sure he is a damned good looking man!

2. Richard Bustillo would be number 1 if Grant Cardone was not such a stud muffin! Richard is knowledgeable  kind hearted, compassionate, driven to success, loved by all who work with him and plus he is married to one of the sexiest women I have ever met, which would seem to indicate qualification credentials... Taking Rick Case Honda on a profit and revenue growth tear over the past few years as one of the leading dealership GM's in the country has not hurt his qualifications for this list.

3. Brian Benstock is a competitive marathon runner, tall dark and handsome, he also happens to be a dealer operating one of the most successful Honda dealerships in America. While working with Brian, I have noticed so many women SWOONING over this man that his sex appeal is not to be denied. Brian inspires and manages a team of automotive professionals in one of the country's toughest markets whose execution of strategy, process and customer management work flows is simply amazing. He has turned Paragon Honda into a major force to be reckoned with in the auto industry.

4. Sean Wolfington has long been one of the undisputed sexiest men in the auto industry and about 12 years ago he gave up the throngs of women who flocked to him, married a stunningly beautiful Spanish lady, settled into being one of the best husbands I have ever known and fathered 4 children since with his bride Ana... Hard to argue THAT is not sexy! While becoming a tremendous father and husband, he developed several automotive businesses and sold them for many millions of dollars while making a hit movie (Bella) along the way... And, he is the benefactor of several renowned charities, while continuing to develop over a dozen automotive related companies in which he has invested his time, expertise and capital.  The only reason Sean is not #1 is because he is such a close friend, personal mentor and sponsor of mine that his position on the list would unquestionably result from my own personal bias. I love this man, as do so many others that I know and respect!

5. David Boice is one of those car guys that has an amazing story of entrepreneurial success while cultivating his reputation as "Diamond Dave" accented by his Saville Row suits and penchant for high end events and accouterments  Besides his remarkable achievements in launching and building the success of AutoMark, his recent 7 years success story at Team Velocity marketing combined with charisma by the gallon ensure David Boice a spot on any top ten list of sexy men in the auto industry. Although not the rugged "handsome devil" type like Grant Cardone, Mr. Boice's smooth mannerisms, polish, demeanor, etiquette and silver tongue belie a genius at solving automotive industry related marketing problems.

6. Mark Gruwell is simply one of those car guys that I believe belongs on a list like this...

7. Jamaal McCoy is another personal pick, plus i was in his dealership on Tuesday and one of the woman who I was working with remarked about how incredibly sexy he is...

8. Kurt Maletych is one of the only men I know that is as handsome and good looking as his ability to sell cars and manage a team of people doing it... I have seen Kurt get impossible projects completed and personally handle 70 Internet Leads in one month and deliver new and used vehicles to half of them! He looks like one of those male models that play on Mexican TV Novellas and is one of the most charming, charismatic and talented men I have ever met... If I was a woman, i would want to have Kurt's babies!

9. Alex Hultgren is a Ford Motor Company Marketing Executive with almost TOO MUCH style, flair and male imbued elegance to be a car guy... But he is! Alex is the marketing thought leader who educated me on the Ford eCommerce Monetization Study and the deep insights this in-house research provided. He taught me and my team how to use empirical data to determine stronger online advertising copy over weaker and how to rotate ads in a story board scenario using behavioral targeting micro-segments. Alex has a style and grace that seems to unnerve men and make women smile... That is why I put him on my list of the ten sexiest car guys.

10. Todd Stainbrook is one of those car guys who defies stereotype and continuously surprises people with his intelligence and creativity. While he was with the Ford Motor Company, Todd Stainbrook worked with me and the Ford Purchasing team to devise a mechanism for earnback credits that would allow Ford to hire regional Digital Marketing Consultants at a time when there was simply NO MONEY available for anything! (2009) Since that program's roll-out Ford has achieved so many successes with their dealers in the world of automotive digital marketing and social media marketing that the earnback credits are no longer needed to get funding... Profits and retail sales now drive a program that was Todd's vision for the future during Ford Motor Company's darkest days. Todd's tall, handsome, English nobleman's looks and demeanor are a powerful combination that i have seen him use to charm and disarm powerful female executives, thus making him a name I want on my list of ten sexiest car guys. Oh, plus he drives a powerboat like a pro and gets suites comped for him at the best hotel casinos in Las Vegas!

What criteria did you base this list on? I don't know all of these guys. I should say I know Grant Cardone. It would be interesting to know in what ways these guys are innovating.

It's kind of demeaning for these men to be put on some meat market list when the girls got to have photos & credentials! -sarcasm- sorry font not currently available.  :)

A real man is secure enough to make a sexy men list :) good job Ralph!

Ralph, I think you should make the list. LOL

Comment by Ralph Paglia on February 27, 2013 at 2:51pm

I am all for the "Ten Sexiest men in Social Media" or "ten Sexiest men in the Auto Industry or whatever you want to cal it... What I would like to see is somebody other than myself create it and then I will work to promote it... Sort of like this article.  I definitely do NOT want to be the arbiter of deciding who is on the list!

Regarding age of posts, Joanna Lord contacted me and wrote a very encouraging message around this article getting revived in her social media spaces and asked me if she could update her images and bio because it is being viewed so frequently.  I (of course) was delighted to do so!

Comment by Tom Gorham on February 27, 2013 at 2:16pm

I'm with you Cathy!  Nothing wrong with reviving old posts if relevant.  I have a feeling this one will be relevant for a long time!  I'm waiting for the men's list.  I'm sure it will be entertaining!

Comment by Cathy Nesbit on February 27, 2013 at 1:27pm

I didn't mean the title, I was referring to the email subject line which was referred to in the responses.

I actually didn't realize this was an old post until I'd responded. Someone shared it today in a Google + community so I had assumed it was new content.

I think a men's list would definitely be much less controversial, and would be taken much more lightheartedly. It Would be interesting for sure!

Comment by Tom Gorham on February 27, 2013 at 12:59pm

Cathy,  I love your measured response.  However, I think the title accurately described the article.  You are definitely correct that sexiness is a lot more complex than physical attractiveness.  Studies have shown for years that women find successful men more sexy than those who are not successful.  So it's no surprise to me that that the reverse is true as well.

Actually, I think Ralph is pretty sensitive as it is.  I like him the way he is. I think his very intelligent and successful wife likes him that way too.  Just guessing.

I think that if it is ok to glamorize beautiful women and men in movies, and on the covers of magazines, that it may be ok, as well, to feature them on ADM as both beautiful and intelligent, when it applies to digital marketing.  It may not be important or inspiring, but it's all in fun.

You, or someone else could post a featured article about the top 10 sexiest men in Social Media. I don't think it would receive the same negative reaction.  Maybe some boohoos and laughter.  Maybe some wows! What do you think?

Comment by Cathy Nesbit on February 27, 2013 at 12:17pm

These ladies have quite the list of accomplishments, and that is sexy.

My two, maybe three thoughts from reading this (and the feedback) are:

1. I don't think there's a thing in the world wrong with looking great and being smart. If it's ok to be ugly and smart it oughta be just as ok to be good looking and smart. (like anyone can control their brains or the beauty they are born with)

2. --Ralph's quote ""Sexy" is a lot more complex than physical attractiveness alone, although it certainly helps!"  ---is so true & subjective and sometimes has very little to do with looks. That goes for turns offs too, but that's not part of the discussion, so moving on...

3. I don't think it was the best idea to use the subject line that was used. It does sound a bit food-like to me. I don't think that was intended to be offensive. It was not a good judgement call, but as a person who says what she thinks when she thinks it, I know sometimes it happens. There are so many times I do and say things that I don't think twice about then when someone points out my insensitivity I'm shocked that I hadn't considered it at all. I do try to learn from it and become more sensitive (to the degree that I can tolerate. I'm not going to sugar coat something because some people are to sensitive to take a breath without whining about it) :)  So I ain't mad at you, but it might suit you better to be more sensitive on your next go at it.
