Car history check is a report that gives the history of the owners and other information that buyers need while purchasing a second-hand car. The history check report can be generated simply by using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the car. It is a 17-digit serial number that can be found under the bonnet or on the windshield of the car.

You can rely on the history check report to assure yourself that the car is being sold be the authorized person and is not stolen. It also tell you the accident status of the car.

What does a car history check involve?

A survey conducted in 2006 indicates that approximately 34% of the Australians use a car history check to buy or sell second-hand cars. Moreover, research indicates that this number has increased over the years. Let us see what makes a car history check so special and why it is so important to obtain before buying a used car:

  • The history check report provides you with all the information above a car irrespective of you are a buyer or a seller.
  • It gives you a detailed status report on its current performance and whether it had undergone any major repairs due to malfunction or breakdown.
  • It gives you an accident report and the details of the damage incurred.
  • It warns you if it is a stolen car.

Why is a car history check important?

Generally, people who are buying or selling a car for the first time are ignorant about technical specifications. If you do not have much knowledge of automobiles, then you are strongly recommended that you get a car history check carried out. When you carry out the check, you can be assured:

  • That all the specifications and details about the car are correct,
  • The seller is genuine and is not trying to get rid of a stolen car,
  • That all the accident/damage report is explicit,
  • That the price quoted is within limits of the market value of the car.

When do you need a car history check?

A car history check ensures that your car deal, whether you are a buyer or seller, is authentic and above-board. These are some of the reasons why a car history check is necessary:

  • You need to get a history check carried out even if you are a seller. You need to know everything about the car so that you can quote the right price and understand its specifications and history accurately. Good knowledge of the car will help you to sell the car easily.
  • As a buyer you need the history report because you can then be assured that you are getting a legitimate deal. You know that the car is performing well and the tech specifications are just as mentioned by the seller.

In conclusion, a car history check report is one of the safest tools to ensure that you are buying/selling a car that is legitimately owned and is in a good condition.
