Is Your Dealerships Link Profile A Toxic Mess?

Links links and more links something every website desires, especially in the dealership world where it is difficult to obtain high quality links. In many early link building campaigns where quantity still ruled over quality a lot of crummy link profiles were created. Now, to explain what a link profile is, that is basically the list of websites linking to yours, what pages they are linking to, where the links are coming from and the anchor text used in the link. If you are not familiar with anchor text, to put it simply it is what the link says, often times we see something like “click here” used for anchor text which brings tears to our eyes especially when it’s from a high quality source. We are going to tell you a little about what an ideal link is, how to check your link profile, and why having a diverse, and quality link profile is the only key to success online.

The Ideal Link-Linktopia

The perfect link is really quite easy to define, getting it is a completely different story. We figured, might as well set the bar and spend most of our time trying to reach it, and finding success in getting as close as possible keeps us going. Basically, a perfect link will come from a high quality website, relevant to your website, with descriptive anchor text describing where the link is taking the potential customer. For example: A link from a highly respected auto site like autoblog, with the link saying something like “new 2008 Malibu Miami” going to a landing page on your website dedicated to the 2008 Malibu, and the Miami area. That is basically the ideal situation, you won’t always get this but when you can, it’s great, and is a very powerful link. Just as in content, relevance is important with links too.

This is not to say you shouldn’t pursue a link if they only offer some of the above perfect situations, this is just to show you there is a difference in quality of inbound links. It is also very important to only seek links from relevant sites or directories, 1,000 links from spammy poker sites back to your dealership will not only not provide any benefit, in many cases Google will punish your site for having a spammy link profile. Keep quality in mind when you are seeking links, we have cleaned up our share of crummy link profiles, it can be done. You also want to vary your anchor text, it will be far more beneficial to your website in the long term if links say a variety of high traffic keywords and point to highly relevant content on your website.

If you are seeing a trend forming in our blog posts, or in some of our comments your stating to get it, SEO, SEM, Sales, and Life in general relies, and rewards quality.(At least most of the time) Seek it out in all your online advertising and focus on being relevant thought your online campaigns. We would (I would) love to talk more about this with any interested people. If you want to check out your own websites link profile simply use Yahoo Site Explorer and take a good look at where your links are coming from.
