Is Anyone Using WordPress As Your Main Dealership Website?

As we wind down 2011, it's becoming increasingly evident that the website "leasing" model is seeming very out of date.  Those of us who regularly use Wordpress blogs can clearly see the SEO / content advantages of using the Wordpress platform for the main dealership website.  Are any of you currently using Wordpress as your main dealership site?  The idea of paying thousands of dollars a month for a template based website with limited SEO value makes little sense.  One of my goals for the new year is to transition all of our stores to a platform that we own and control.  Please let me know if have made the transition.

Thanks for the mention Scott!

@Mike W. To avoid "pitching" here, if you would like to know more about the different ways our dealers are using WordPress please don't hesitate to contact me. I am a huge WordPress and open source fan and would be more than happy to share with you what we have learned, even unrelated to our WordPress offerings.

It is nice to hear that there are dealers that are willing to move away from the template website from the major website providers.  Creating unique content websites in WP will definitely give you an advantage over your competitors.  You will probably end up spending less too.  It is still amazing to me that dealers are willing to have the same website with the same content as their competitors.  This not only costs more but google penalizes your site for not having unique content. I only wonder how long it will take the major website providers to start offering WP site.  Good work Mike.

Very nice...I don't think that very many dealers have come to realize how important it is to have additional assets on line to A) keep the poachers away from important "page one's" that the dealer should control B) create valuable links back to the dealer's main properties. If you are generating leads you are even further ahead! Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the info Scott.  We currently host 10 WP blogs and in some cases they are getting more traffic than our factory dealership sites.

You'll need the inventory plug in that best suits your needs and you may be missing some of the factory connections that come with a major provider, but it is inevitable that a WordPress platform will become more acceptable as a main site as time goes by. Contact Mike Fitzpatrick at Dealertrend for the plug in you will need. I would also suggest using and self hosting it vs. If I can be of any help as you move forward feel free to reach out. We have built numerous sites for our dealership assets' link building strategy, lead generation and general page one presence for important search terms, etc.
