Daily Drivers: How to Find a Commuter Car Superstar

While sitting in traffic, you may think about the many long hours that you spend behind the wheel each week. Commuters may easily spend 10 hours or more getting back and forth to work each week.
Now that you have decided to upgrade your driving experience by purchasing a new commuter car, you understandably want to select a vehicle that is safe and enjoyable to drive. After narrowing down the options that are priced well for your budget, take these steps to make a thoughtful selection.

Research Safety Features and Ratings

Spending so much time behind the wheel on crowded streets may increase your likelihood of being in an accident. Safety ratings vary dramatically by model and trim, and these ratings can easily be located online. In addition to focusing on safety ratings, compare the safety features included in the models and trims that you are most interested in. Today’s vehicles increasingly have advanced driver’s assistive technologies, such as smart cruise control, blind spot monitoring and more.

Compare Features

Standard and optional features throughout the interior and exterior can affect your driving experience in numerous ways. For example, some cars have heated and cooled front seats with motion sensitivity and memory functions. These can inflate the cost of a vehicle, but they also can help you to get to and from in comfort each day. The features in your vehicle should be ones that you actually would use and derive considerable benefits from. Analyze your current driving experience, and find a vehicle that has features that would improve the most uncomfortable or inconvenient aspects of your daily commute.

Test Drive to Compare Performance

Comparing vehicle performance between multiple models and trims is critical as well. The powertrain and mechanical features may vary by trim. After selecting a few models that you are interested in, reach out to a salesperson or dealership so that you can compare the various powertrains available for each trim. In addition to variations in powertrains, braking features, suspension systems, and other performance-based features can vary from trim to trim.

Upgrading to a new commuter car can transform your experience behind the wheel each day. However, with so many variations between the models and trims, your commuting experience is dependent on the specific vehicle that you decide to take home. After determining your budget and comparing your top picks online, make plans to test drive several vehicles before finalizing purchase plans.
