Loading... Be Patient!

Maintaining your car is a crucial aspect that every car owner must follow religiously to increase the life of their car and have it work properly and look good. The key to keeping your car in a good condition is to stick to the maintenance schedule defined in the owner’s manual that comes with the car.

Your car will last longer if you have regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and car service. When you stick to a specific schedule, your car, in turn, give you excellent service for many years. You will not have to fear the car breaking down because it will give optimum performance.

Replacing parts when needed, changing the oil, checking tire pressure, and other car service activities can save you money in the long-term and help you keep your car in pristine condition.

The Oil Change

You must regularly check and change the oil of your car so that the vehicle keeps running smoothly and to extend the lifespan of the car engine. Car oil change is one of the most basic things you should learn to do yourself.  You can, of course, get it done at a car service center, if the oil filter and oil drain plug of your car are hard to reach.

The key steps for an oil change involve removing the oil drain plug to drain the oil, unscrewing the oil filter and emptying it, putting the oil filter and drain plug back, opening the oil filter hole cap, and pouring in fresh oil. It is not exactly a difficult task and you can do some research online on how to do it.

The Tire Change

A car cannot run without tires. They do puncture or go flat once in a while when you are going somewhere. Changing a flat tire is a useful skill to have, it is not something that is too difficult to do.

The key steps involve making the lug nuts loose (with a wrench), using a jack stand to raise the car off the ground, removing the lug nuts (and then the tire), placing the spare tire on, using the wrench to put the lug nuts back on, lowering the car, and finally making the lug nuts tight.

The Spark Plug Change

Most people who deal with cars know what spark plugs are and what they do. They are the tiny devices inside the cylinder that create sparks to ignite the gasoline so that your car can start. These spark plugs tend to wear out every 10,000 miles or so. Fixing them is a rather easy job.

You need to first locate your spark plugs, remove the spark plug wire, remove the faulty spark plug, insert the new spark plug in its place, and put the wire back. That is all. If you are confused, look it up online.

The Scratch Removal

Scratches on the body of your car are the worst thing that can happen. Even the smallest of scratches are visible from far away and can affect the way your car looks. The problem is that it may cost you a lot of money to get the scratches in a body shop. You can try to remove them yourself if you are up for it. You need a few supplies though.

First, identify the depth of the scratch, lightly sand the scratch, clean the area, apply to rubbing compound, polish the area with the rubbing compound, wash the area, and finally wax the area to seal the repair. Your car body should be looking sparkling new by now.

If there are major problems in your car, professionals should do the car service. However, if you learn to do these four basic tasks, you can save a lot of time, money, and hassle. Go for a car service only for serious issues and bigger tasks!
