Nothing says you are not worthy more than outdated content on your web properties. If you do little else, keep your content up to date and fresh.

  • Previous  month’s service coupons three days into the current month
  • Rebates and incentives  out of date
  • Sold units sprinkled on every page of inventory
  • Outdated articles
  • Event pages that have not been updated (I am always floored when I see an announcement for an upcoming event that was held 2 months ago)
  • Snow covered inventory photos in July!
  • Mold growing on your last Facebook entry
  • 2 day lag replying to your guests comments
  • Broken links.

( It is nice however, seeing your competition still sporting a Mullet)

Guilty as charged: "2 day lag replying to your guests comment"

Great illustration; great post!  Thanks Tom

Great post Tom. Most dealers would have a fit if they saw that the cars on their lot were dirty with faded stickers, yet they never walk their virtual lot - where far more potential customers visit.

Aj, Mullets are still cool in my neck of the woods! Thanks for your comments.

Thomas-right on the money!!!! Don't you love when you are trying to update your specials at the beginning of the month and the OEM changes the incentives 3 times in 3 days. I actually create slides for our new car specials. I find that the conversion is so much better (useful hint folks; make sure you write it out in text under the pretty picture for the engines). There are months when the new ones won't get up for a few days; but there is always 2 -3 vehicles that you can still sell for the same $$ as last month. LEAVE them up while the new ones are being developed. I always tell the desk managers that they are busiest the last week of the month and I am busiest the first week of the month. Excellent illustration of that Tom. (If I was told that to have hair I'd have to wear a mullet I would continue to shave my head!)

Thomas - Love the way the David Spade photos illustrate the need for dealers to keep their sites fresh... Kind of like we recently redesigned the look and feel of ADM!
