Professional Community for Car Dealers, Marketing, Advertising and Sales Leaders

Loading... Be Patient!
Hi Everyone! I am very, very new to this and upon the advise of my new friend Frank Davis, am seeking the advise of ya'll. While I am not new to marketing, advertising, and online leads, I am new to this industry. I am trying to figure out what topics to talk about in an on-going blog that will be posted on our website. My previous blogging experience was more of an on-going chat session about community watch and apartment living. I have noticed several blog sites that are not what I consider to be blogs. They have one line comments on a subject and alot of what I would consider Facebook/Twitter comments. I have been told that my blog is not necessarily for people to read but for the web crawlers to pick up on key words to increase our SEO. What are your thoughts, what topics should we cover and should we just "steal" content from other websites or should this be a more 'personal opinion' blog?

Here are links to a few dealership blogs that are doing things right in my opinion.

The key to getting action from your blog posts is to use anchor text links back to relevant pages within your eCommerce site. For example, the words "2011 Ford F-150" would be linked to a Ford dealer's inventory search results page for 2011 F-150's...

Most dealerships are using separate blog sites and accounts to create a much broader based online presence. You will not pick up any incremental traffic from a blog posted within your eCommerce site. Wordpress and Blogger are two very popular blog platforms. I also like Tumblr and Typepad quite a bit, plus their posts seem to get indexed by search engines very quickly.

Hard-core dealership bloggers seem to prefer hosting their own Wordpress app on a separate hosting service, such as , but to start with I recommend and because of all the great add-in widgets and apps that make it easy to have a VERY attractive blog site with lost of pictures and videos.

Oh yeah, two more favorites of mine are Posterous and LiveJournal... Posterous is very good for posting blog articles by email and LiveJournal is good for the same reasons... However, in my opinion there is nothing better than using a gmail email account and blogger accounts to create and post blog articles by email. Formatting, images and everything goes through very well....

Do you know any other dealerships that are blogging on their website?

Write stories about the people who work in your dealership... Then, find out what those people do outside of work and look for interesting ties to the local community, charitable activities, sports, civic pride, etc. and write stories and blog posts about that stuff... Make sure you take lots of pictures, and video clips less than 3 minutes in length and embed them into your blog posts.
