J.D. Power Teams with DealerRater to Combine Automotive Customer Insights and Accelerate Feedback to Automotive Dealers

I hope this isn't viewed as a promotional post. Those that know me know I'm not a fan of using the forums as an overt sales tool, but this is big news for the industry and worthy of discussion here on ADM. I want to make myself available to you if you have any questions regarding this partnership.

Automotive News covered the story last night and also covered it in the First Shift newscast this morning as well:…

Are you still paying for fake likes?

I came across this scathing opinion piece on Facebook advertising and I'd like to share it with the community for discussion. I'm admittedly not extremely well versed on Facebook ads, but this video seems to make a clear and concise case for questioning the effectiveness of buying likes through sponsored ads. What do you think?

Are you a Boss or a Leader?

A member of my team sent this picture to me this morning:

For those of you with direct reports, how important is it to your department that you are seen as the "leader" as opposed to the "boss?" Is there ever a case that being the "boss" is beneficial, or is it always a detriment to the productivity of your team? Would your department see a change in…

"Yeah, but look at my arms..."

For those of you that attended Brian Benstock's excellent session at AutoCon, here is a visual aide:

Brian's point was that focusing on one KPI at the expense of others is NOT success. If this guy's biceps represent gross and his calf's represent turn, there is an obvious imbalance for management to address before the business topples under it's own success in a single…

Last Week of the Month- How about a Contest?

As an active participant in the forums I hope you'll give me a little leeway on a semi-promotional post

We are trying something a little different this week in advance of the busy conference season by doing a virtual "dropping of the business card" to win an Ipad. All you need to do is watch a short video testimonial from Jeff King of Bozard Ford. This is stupid easy and the odds of winning are really pretty darn good. How many dealership employees will take 5 minutes…

Gallup says 70% of Americans negative about their jobs...

A friend alerted me to this article about a recent Gallup poll that I frankly found alarming.

Step into the tower for just a minute, have…

This post has been edited for content...

Have you ever found yourself up late at night watching a movie that has been edited for content?

Some dubs are better than others, but it doesn't take a lip reader to know that "Yippee Kay Yeah, Mr. Falcon" may not have been in the original script of Die Hard. Here is another classic from Snakes on a Plane:

When responding to a negative review…

When was the last time you put on your customer hat?

I'm your potential customer and I just heard your radio ad, saw your TV Commercial, drove by a billboard, heard a coworker mention you at the water-cooler, or remembered your name from a classified site I was cruising during that boring webinar this afternoon.

It's Friday night, I'm in market for a car, and I'm thinking about going out to put my hands on…

Band-Aids don't cure Cancer!

This one isn't going to make me any friends, but I believe it wholeheartedly and feel that it needs to be said...

I was asked a couple days ago by two different prominent people in the industry the following question: Can you outsource your reputation to a vendor? I’m of the opinion that with a proper definition of the term “reputation,” the short answer is, “No.”

What is “Your Reputation?”

Merriam-Webster’s Learners dictionary…

Can process prevent this?

The DealerRater handle on Twitter was alerted to a blog post by Randy Gage yesterday afternoon:

You can tell by the tweet that this post didn't share a favorable view of dealerships, dealership employees or dealership procedures. You can read the post in its entirety…

The stairs of today's "UP BUS" are paved with STARS...

There has been a lot of talk about how important reviews are to consumers in the past few months, but not a lot of real data to support the anecdotal claims.

I wanted to share a few numbers with you to help reinforce the importance of review collection and…

"Our Dealership SUCKS..."

I'm not commenting one way or the other on recent discussions regarding Carfax's advertising campaigns. The only thing that I will say is that it sure has garnered a lot of interest from the community. If dealers are being represented poorly in an ad campaign they should respond and vehemently defend themselves, right? Makes sense, until you see this...

Are you marketing the Brands within your Brand?

The Question: What do Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist, SoBe, AMP Energy Drink, Propel, Mug, and Aquafina have in common with your Sales Team?

The answer: They are all Brands within a Brand! It doesn’t matter to PepsiCo, the parent…
