20 Ways Website Switchover Pains Can Be Avoided

Another week of frantic calls from clients that did not advise me when they were cutting over to a new website provider.  Does anyone really pay attention to what I say or write?

So, I thought I would take to the keyboard and send out a reminder to dealers who are not aware of the impact that changing a website provider can have on their marketing…

Do You Know How Many VDP Views A Month Occur On Your Own Website?

It is no secret that consumers research cars online and that there is a STRONG correlation between inventory Vehicle Detail Page (VDP) views and car sales for a dealer.

The more times a dealer's VDP's are viewed by in-market consumers, the more likely the phone will ring, an email lead will be submitted, or a…

Google Cars Program Video Explains Program To Dealers

I created a video that gives a brief overview of the Google Cars program, officially called the Google Commercial Unit For Cars (CUFC). A few more details on the program are now available but dealers still have a number of questions left unanswered.

Take a minute to watch the video and see my comments at the bottom of this page.…

What Is Google Doing By Summarizing VDP Data in Search Results?

I always try to keep this community up to date with the latest search trends and changes in Google.  We have been noticing some interesting "summary" pricing results on certain search queries that include automotive classified websites.

If you look at the search results shown below, Google is pulling out VDP data, and summarizing this data is the SERP.  We have a good idea why this is happening but the answers would…

Cash for Clunkers Failed The Automotive Industry

An Open Letter to Automotive Professionals:

The Cash for Clunkers program has provided an important lesson that Congress must take to heart at this time when other sweeping measures such as national healthcare reform are being considered.

The concept of creating a stimulus package for the automotive industry had its share of detractors, but the measure was passed by Congress and was signed into law on June 24,… Continue

Tips for Entering in Your CARS Sales to NHTSA Website

Here are some data entry notes a dealer sent to me to help other dealers who are struggling to enter sales into the CARS system. It seems that the "pipe" symbol is needed to quickly find the cars that are involved in the trade. It comes down to a poorly designed user interface by the NHTSA.

Today we had about a dozen car dealers say that they were pulling out of the program for various reasons. Many are struggling with the compliance and administration. Other just can't seem to get… Continue

Dealer Warning on FuelEconomy.GOV Data

I have been getting emails from consumers that are claiming that the EPA MPG rating are changing on www.fueleconomy.gov, day to day. For some, this meant that their car now qualifies. For others, their car now was disqualified.

This is SCARY.

I strongly encourage all dealers to print screen the fueleconomy.gov website when you look-up a trade-in and date and time stamp the print-out. You do not want to be in the middle of a data change that would disqualify a trade that… Continue

Car Dealers Warned About Starting CARS Too Early

Any car dealer that gives a consumer the CARS credit on a new car sales on July 1st runs the risk of complicating their reimbursement process. Don’t take our word for it, read what is posted on the NHTSA website.

Automotive SEM In A Crappy Economy

A well-tuned Google Adwords (PPC) campaign is extremely effective in generating car sales leads. Pay per click advertising, when combined with a good landing page, can deliver an excellent ROI. Google display and banner ads, even when they are not clicked, can also increase brand awareness in your local market. If you are not using Google Adwords, you are making your competitors very happy.

During difficult economic times, everyone is evaluating their spending, so I thought I would… Continue
