When it comes to social media advice, the majority of the common catch phrases are there for a reason. Tips like “be engaging” and “communicate, don’t broadcast” are sound pieces of advice despite the annoying frequency that they’re used by gurus. There’s one common tip that is more than just annoying. In many ways, it’s actually wrong.…Continue

Are you struggling to find the right TV for your dealership?
Are vendors telling you that commercial TV's are necessary?

About 10 years ago, the only way to get a high definition picture was to use Commercial Grade TVs. These TVs were used in single installations and media walls. Back then, the high definition was 1360x768, but your average TV…Continue

Stop the madness! I, unfortunately, might be part of the cause of the recent trends happening on dealer Twitter profiles and for that, I am truly sorry.
For years, I've been harping on the concept that Twitter is something that no dealer should avoid because of how quick and easy it is. There's no huge investment of time required to have a strong Twitter presence. This advice and…Continue

I’ve often advocated in my blogs the benefits of quoting a price to customers who submit leads with a price inquiry. If the customer is submitting leads to more than one dealership, not providing the price will likely eliminate you from consideration.
Yet, according to CNW Marketing Research, 70.5% of people finance their cars. That means the vast majority of Internet leads will take the…Continue
Employees will treat your customers EXACTLY the way you treat them. If your employees are well cared for, they will focus on being good to your customers.
This is why, according to Shep Hyken, the secret to building a customer service culture is not to start focusing on customers, but rather employees. He says that great companies "hire the right people to fit into the culture. They train them both technically and on how to…Continue

If someone asked me for a single piece of advice about blogging, it wouldn’t be a standard answer like “post regularly” or “know your audience”. It wouldn’t be to “find a niche” or “add keywords to your title”. These are all good pieces of advice and are almost always in the mix in “X Top Tips for Blogging” posts that pop up every couple of weeks…Continue

In my last article, I discussed what a Public Relations firm does. One of those tasks, which I hope you never need but is important to understand, is crisis management. Not every company is going to go off the deep end like…Continue

Often times when I chat with dealers I ask dealers what is keeping them, from getting to the next level of super success I hear responses like:
We need more quality leads.
Or... Cars are bringing brain damage at the sale.
Or... It's hard to find real salespeople anymore man, they just don't breed them like us, you know what I mean?
My answer to these issues are yes, yes and yes...so what. You have to control the controllable and you can control all of these…

I think it’s safe to say we won’t be getting any more snow for a while in Minnesota (I say that with 51% certainty). Since I’ve finally thawed out after the nastiest winter I’ve had in years, I decided to make the most out of the good weather and bought a bike. There’s a bike path near my house that goes all the way to downtown Minneapolis.
It’s been a long time since I rode, and I’ve disliked cyclists for quite a while. They’re always hogging the road, wearing outfits…

Time allotted to us every day is finite, just 24 hours.
Most of us need six to eight hours of sleep if we can get it, and if we have family then evening hours should be devoted to them. This leaves approximately 12 hours to work, to get errands done, and wolf down a donut for breakfast and…Continue

The automotive industry is always evolving and with that evolution we must constantly adapt to the changes.

Creating a loyal customer is sort of like getting married. The introduction is followed by a period of courtship and, if all goes well, commitments are made. Loyalty in the automotive world is something that everyone battles from the OEM level to the dealership. Did you know, however, that the longer you’ve had a customer the harder it is to keep them?

This isn’t going to be a long post (I know a lot of mine have been too long, lately) but that doesn’t make it any less important. It’s short because the concept is simple. Unfortunately, many are missing out on this easy technique.
There are plenty of types of content that you can post on Facebook, but they invariably fall into one of two categories –…Continue
