I would like to share with you some things I am working on with one of my clients. This is something we started just two weeks ago and is moving along very nicely. Below are several ways we are using VIDEO with their INVENTORY:

As visitors browse through their inventory, they will see a VIDEO link on the specific vehicles that have videos: Real video walk-arounds are so much more engaging for the consumer than a slide show walk-around and also gives them the chance to introduce themselves and tell the consumer about the vehicle as if they were right there with them.

Once the person clicks on the vehicle, it displays the vehicle details, additional pictures and a video:
Being able to not only view additional pictures once they click on the vehicle details page but in this example using VinSolutions inventory management system, they also have the video they created, upfront and center for the consumer to click and watch.

Create a YouTube account: Once they upload the pictures and video into VinSolutions, the videos are automatically sent to their YouTube account with the correct info, links and tags. Besides watching the videos, consumers can also Subscribe to their videos, read about the dealership and click directly to their website from their YouTube page.

Google Search Results: By having video walk-arounds of not only their USED vehicles but also their NEW vehicles, when people search for vehicles, their YouTube videos will not only show up in the organic search results with a thumbnail of the video for people to click on but it also displays the dealerships information.

.....once they click on their video, it takes them to this page:

Real Video walk arounds automatically sent to AutoTrader!

One of the other HUGE benefits of doing real video walk arounds is the capability of sending them to AutoTrader.  Once you upload your video walk around using this system and special camera, the software takes care of the rest!  It will automatically send your video to AutoTrader just like it does to YouTube!  AutoTrader did a good job of displaying the video link on their site – it’s a tab right next to the Photos tab.

As of June of 2008, vehicles with video on AutoTrader get 15% more emails, 3% more map look ups, 15% more printable vehicle details and 20% more vehicle detail views.

Once the consumer clicks on the video tab, it displays the video controls so they can click on play, pause, stop, forward, rewind and a volume control:

Wow Chris - that is one of the best "how to" articles on creating your own online video advertisement I've seen. And as someone who works for a company that provides a free video making service to small to medium size busines owners I would know!

Your keyword/tag strategy is on target and is CRUCIAL to getting your ad to work for you. In addition to YouTube as a placement opportunity, check out Hulu.com -- they just added social networking capabilities and are getting lots of traffic and buzz.

For those of you intimidated by "producing" the video, check out our offering (http://www.spotmixer.com) - its free and couldn't be easier (you can just drop the assets you already have into our templates). Auto sellers are a quickly growing customer segment for us.

Best of luck to all of you "Scorceses"

Thanks Cherie, I appreciate the compliment especially coming from a video expert.

Maybe you should start a post and show the dealers what and how they can use your product...
Okay, wheres the free part? I created a video but couldn't get past the select a campaign to get any code or links. Is it just free to create a video but costs something to use it somewhere. I would like to embed the code on my site or post on youtube with our other videos. I know the $49 a month you are asking for isn't much but I don't have any budget for this.

By the way, it was pretty cool.
Hey Joey,

Are talking about the spotmixer.com that Cherie was referring to? Let me know if you get it figured out and what you think of it. I haven't taken the time to mess with it....

Thanks.
Yep, I guess I clicked on the wrong "Reply to This" link.
No, you clicked on the right reply. I figured as much but I just wanted to make sure.
Joey,

Check out www.videobloom.com. They have a free offering that will let you upload videos and then embed or send links. Here's an example of their player on my Dealer Advisor website. It's a video of a presentation I gave at Digital Dealer in 2007. http://www.dealer-advisor.com/Dont_Click_Here.html
One of the other HUGE benefits of doing real video walk arounds is the capability of sending it to AutoTrader. I'm sure that other inventory management systems do this but the example used below is using VinSolutions Inventory Management System. Once you upload your video walk around using the VinCamera into the system, VinSolutions takes care of the rest! VinSolutions will automatically send your video to AutoTrader (if of course you have an AutoTrader account) just like it does to YouTube!

AutoTrader did a good job of displaying the video link on their site - its a tab right next to the Photos tab. Because its a newer feature for consumers, the only thing better would be to have it flash, change colors or something to have it stick out just a little more. Make it stand out until consumers are used to it. That being said, I think it's awesome that AutoTrader allows an automatic feed of video from an inventory system that is FREE of charge for the dealer!

Video automatically sends to AutoTrader

Chris, What you are doing is great but what is missing is the automation... Real Video takes a lot of time, has to be edited and requires a person who can walk and chew gum at the same time.... We, like others in the field, offer a "video slide show" approach which takes the still pictures from a data feed and post them as a "pan and zoom" video along with a spoken-text software program. Other more expensive programs offer for a live person to read the text. While there are a number of services that now offer this including about every "car-snap-shot" company most of these products fail in the automation area. Some general vendors are: DMi InfoIQ, Liquidus VideoLink, UnityWorks! Media. One of the issues is that when the car is sold, does the video come off of YouTube? Can you edit the video on YouTube to change the price as you show here in your example.... Really what eveyone should be getting is according to a post on Forrester Research that posting a video on YouTube with the proper SEO tags
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEO] you have a 50x better chance of having your listing appear on the first page of a Google search over a traditional web page. For those that don't know it, Google owns YouTube. If you were to break out the numbers, YouTube is the #2 search engine above Yahoo and MSN [now known as "Live"]. Here is a summary of why you should use YouTube that I wrote a few weeks back: (no sales pitch here.. if you are not in a state with one of our State Association Automobile partners we cannot help you) http://icarsandtrucks.com/dealerprogram/images/videoonweb.pdf There is a lot more you can do with this... but thanks for the tutorial on how-to
Well actually Torrey, the whole point of the post was automation. I understand about the "video" slide show and voice to text and for many dealers that is a great choice.......although you left out one of the best companies for video slide shows: SiSTeR Technologies.

For dealers who want to simply take another only 2 or 3 minutes and record a real walk around video of the car, add the human touch, add some personality, what people like to see on YouTube, the rest....well, it's automatic.

Once you plug the VinCamera into your computer, it automatically uploads to your inventory and automatically pushes to YouTube, AutoTrader, Cars.com, shows on the dealers website, SEO results occur and yes they automatically remove from YouTube when sold, etc. No editing required and you can even chew gum although not recommended :-)

By the way, thanks for the comments and additional info. The more video options for dealers, the better!
Great post and great comments!

Video is huge now and it seems that everybody is jumping on board in some way shape or form. For dealers that have the time and competent staff, VinSolutions offering is definitely worth consideration. For dealers that need to go the "hands off" route, the data and pictures rendered into video is the way to go. IMO, we've only seen the beginning of where technology will take video in terms of production quality, interactivity, marketing and conversion increases.

I spoke at the last Digital Dealer conference on this very topic heavily slanted toward the VSEO element. If you're interested... go to Google and type in these phrases to see some VSEO results completely done as a Do-It-Yourselfer:
"Digital Dealer Grapevine TX" - Number 1,2,3,4
"2007 Honda Fit Dallas TX" - Number 1 (Basic Auto Group)
"2009 Subaru WRX Lubbock TX" - Number 1 (Alderson Subaru)

Chris mentioned SiSTeR Technologies... they have an amazing technology platform based on taking a feed including video, pictures and data and creating, distributing and optimizing video with no dealer effort at all. In fact, a VinSolutions dealer that simply doesn't have the time to record walk arounds could simply send SiSTeR their data feed from VinSolutions and SiSTeR would create videos for all the vehicles in minutes and distribute them to the dealer's website, third party sites and YouTube.

Here's an example of SiSTeR's VSEO and video distribution:
Go to Google and type in:
"Honda Accord Richardson TX" - The top 5 results are all from SiSTeR's platform.

We're on the tip of the iceburg with this video thing folks. Trust me... there's some cool stuff coming down the pipe. Stay tuned!
Shaun is exactly right which you can tell when you read most of my posts......I post things for the do it yourself dealers out there or the ones looking for ways to do things without the added expense of doing it.

There are many benefits to doing real walk arounds and taking your own pics and the dealers that do this, know exactly what I'm talking about but I'll be the first to agree - its not for everyone........You need a technology like VinSolutions that allows you to easily take video and then automatically push the video to YouTube, etc, a process in the dealership to follow, a leader to train the process and maintain the process and the people which is actually the easiest part if you have the other parts down. If you have all of these things, doing your own video just like doing your own pictures, might be for you. If not...

I didn't know a lot about SiSTeR Technologies until Shaun started working for them and I had a chance to chat with Shaun and Tomer at NADA. They have been doing some very cool things and seem to be ahead of the other video slide show companies that are out there. Thanks for the comments Shaun and for those looking for a "hands off" approach or don't have a system like VinSolutions, now you know who to contact for video.

And yes, with companies like SiSTeR and VinSolutions working on ways to utilize video, make it easier and more effective, there's soo much more to come. I can't wait!
