In regards to the Comment by Tim Rulapaugh made 4 hours ago; in the 1930's and 1940's there were a whole lot of very ethical and morally upstanding German citizens who ignored the antics of their elected political leaders at the time... Need I point out what "Do you take the moral and ethical high road and ignore his antics?" did for those German citizens who decided to do so at that time?

Now, before you all start lambasting me, I am not suggesting that the situations are comparable, I am using an extreme example in order to emphasize a point... When we all start ignoring morally repugnant acts by others, we essentially are condoning and supporting those very same despicable actions.  It is every person's responsibility to call a bully a bully and to as forcefully as possible (short of violence) let it be known that the bully's tactics will not be tolerated.

Dealers, don't forget to email Jim Ziegler a copy of your vendor contracts (all contracts). We have to revisit these contracts to safeguard our data. We have to put the puzzle pieces together to show dealers each vendor partner, affiliate or subsidiary that is obtaining our data from our Dealer Leaks. What is your data worth? Apparently $299 a unit on a minimum. Get the picture yet? We're losing this data war. We've had enemies/vendors pilfering our data for years now. Send your contracts to Jim and and lets find out who they are and how we can protect our industry's future. Be prepared for more attacks as we expose these threats. Their profits are on the line as much as ours are. That's why this is referred to as a Data War. Someone will win, someone will lose. Dealers have the greatest power with their data. They just have to make the right choice to lock it down.

I would like to chime in and simply say that in four years of watching THOUSANDS of people post content and comment on content posted by others, Thomas Kelly has been above reproach for his integrity and professional morality... To have Thomas Kelly call you out on something is like having Mother Theresa say you have been a baaaaad bad boy!

Thomas, I have always appreciated your input and commentary and would like to see more rather than less.

@ Tim, I did not ignore his antics, no question about that, but in not doing so I am not certain it puts me on the low road. If I had thought that exposing and shamming Dietz to a wider audience was immoral or unethical, I would have not done so. If I was sufficiently healed I would purchase a full page on the WSJ to widen the audience. I appreciate your comments Tim, Thanks!

@ Jason, Three of those hits were me, several more were from friends and associates that I sent the link to. Good stuff!.....299.00-399.00...If I am in a TC dealers 90 day window and I end up purchasing a 1500.00 beater...the 400.00 bomb will hit after the sale....I may have originally inquired on a new Camaro through TC, but I'm a deadbeat and ended up buying a transportation special a couple of months later.....Bingo, it's a match!

@ Thomas, how hard is it for a dot com company to move outside our borders for more shelter? Dealers better put their thinking caps on. TrueCar could easily impact our economy in a negative way. How many times has a dealer principle told their managers, "We just need $100 more per deal to get to where we need to be." Yet some dealers are paying $299+ per deal to, essentially, advertise. There is no better, cost effective and cumulative effort than local digital advertising and social media.

I made a nine minute 2012 Camaro video on YouTube that has over 375,000 hits in 6 months. It continues to give me exposure. Its #1 in the world on that search criteria. Can TrueCar do that for your dealer with 9 minutes of your time? There is no shortcut to a car deal. We've been telling our sales associates that for 100 years. Now there are dealers that think there is a shortcut out of this past recession. There is not. Learn how to harness local digital marketing and social media. Go back to school if you have to. Just don't deceive yourself into thinking there is a shortcut. You wouldn't let your sales associates do what you're trying to do. Put in Time, Talent, and Effort.

Whenever you put yourself on the front lines of a debate, you open yourself up to attacks of all kinds.  Just ask any politician.

That being said, though, those attacks should be limited to areas pertinent to the debate.  Attacking someone's family over a business debate *should* be off limits, but not everyone sees things the same way or plays by the same rules.

Dietz was clearly way out of bounds by even digging for dirt on Ziegler's family.  To use what he found (a bad decision by an adult child) in an apparent attempt to silence a critic shows at the very least a lack of professionalism, morals, and ethics. the question do you respond?  Do you lower yourself to the level of Dietz and start slinging mud back?  Do you expose and shame Dietz to a wider audience (GRP funds more than just automotive sites)?  Do you call for his removal from GRP?  Do you take the moral and ethical high road and ignore his antics?

Reminds me of the Oklahoma State Coach Mike Gundy during one of his weekly press conferences when a story about one of his players, who was a good kid, was about 75% false. Mike emphatically yelled at the reporter "I'm a man - I'm 40! If you want to come after someone then come after me or one of my coaches." If Steven Dietz wants to go after Jim, then ok. But bringing family into it, is an all-time personal low for anyone.

@ Jason, you point out what is often overlooked. In December 2011 alone, by TC's own accounting...30,000 commissions ( as many states now agree) were paid at a minimum of 299.00 each. At a minimum, 8.97 million went to Santa Monica, not my hometown, not yours.
