Social Proof: The Power Of The Review - An Automotive Social Media Video

This is video 2, in a series of videos, aimed at teaching the automotive sales person how to harness the power of automotive social media. In this video, David Johnson of Next Generation Dealer Services and PersuasiveConcepts.com, reveals a way for sales people to ask for and receive online reviews from their customers as well as a way to garner video testimonials.

At Grubbs Infiniti, to get the employees used to using social media, we put up an iPad and set weekly challenges that had specific points associated with. Each week they had to use a different platform, from Facebook and Youtube to Twitter and blogging. For instance they had to create a video one week, about themselves and why they liked working at the dealership, the video was worth 15 points or so with a bonus for every like they received on the video on Facebook. At the end of this weekly challenge they must have added about 1000 likes on Facebook.

The employees really enjoyed themselves and to this day they still use social media to connect with their customers.

I'm with you, David. I wish it was easier to motivate the sales team to think of the long-term benefits of building relationships. A few of our guys get it, and have done very well for themselves that way, but most of them just think in terms of making their monthly goals. Short game is fine and can't be ignored, but real success comes with balancing the short-game and the long-game. So far a few of our eager youngin's have been working the new program, getting some of the older hands on board has been a challenge. Also, finding the price point for the bonus that offers enough incentive without making the owner's head explode. It's early days yet, but I'll keep you posted.

I wish we didn't have to motivate that way but I've done things similar in the past and it works! You'll have to let us know the outcome.

We just started an internal contest for the sales staff where we give 5-points for a review and 2-points for every testimonial. Winning salesperson in each store get's a bonus and the winner overall get's a bonus on top of that. Customers are automatically entered to win an iPad if they write a review and send me the link.

@Ralph, I really need to finish the studio! LOL It's a huge room that I am doing the video in and it has echo so I turned the volume down a tad to hopefully combat that. It should be ready next week... I hope! LOL

I really like the way David explains how to use social media ratings and review sites to get customer reviews from sold car buyers... His logic is obviously from having done this himself!
