Yelp Ye-LOL-p: At Business, DOING Business Reviews Added

I'm going to say "I Told You So". My "$.02" may now be at least "$.25" on this point. Anyway, whether that's true or not, this is a fairly negative article about Yelp below, but key in on this:

"...Yelp has launched the ability for users to leave reviews from their mobile devices, which is sure to greatly increase the frequency of reviews, as people (particularly those who have negative experiences) can easily whip out their phone while still at a business’ location, with their thoughts fresh in their minds, and leave a review.

“We’ve had it out to [a limited number of] hard-core users for a couple weeks, and the data back so far has been pretty sweet,” Stoppelman told AdWeek, when asked about mobile reviews contributing to a spike in Yelp activity."

Ahem. What do you think would happen if you asked your customers to do that while at the dealership? Don't you think they will even if you don't ask them to?

This whole "can't do a true review of a dealer while at the dealer" is and has been baloney. Here goes Yelp making it happen.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Keith

Can't fault a guy for trying, right?  ;)

Your comment literally made me laugh out loud. Will I be seeing you at AutoCon? I'm pretty sure that one of us owes the other a beer...

Ryan, I don't think we agree on that at all. Love ya, tho, my brother! :)

Interesting article Keith. Thanks for sharing! I hadn't seen that clip Manny, haven't paid attention to anything from "The People's Court" since Wapner! Thanks to both of you!

I don't think we need to drag out the old discussions on this topic, but I suspect we agree that a customer taking out their smartphone to review you on the site of their choice of their own volition is materially different than a dealership employee walking them to a dealer owned review station, helping them to create an account, and giving them false space to leave their "honest opinion" before they go into finance.

Yelp allowing reviews via mobile isn't earth shattering, or even innovative. I've lovingly embraced the term "Review Police" from my friend Yago, and we've been allowing this since April...

The "In-store" reviews debate has always been about what the dealer does, NOT what the consumer does...

I'm really looking forward to discussing this with Ralph at AutoCon!

Yeah, Manny, the People's Court thing is shameful for Yelp.
