For those of you that attended Brian Benstock's excellent session at AutoCon, here is a visual aide:
Brian's point was that focusing on one KPI at the expense of others is NOT success. If this guy's biceps represent gross and his calf's represent turn, there is an obvious imbalance for management to address before the business topples under it's own success in a single metric.
This analogy was one of the most memorable parts of AutoCon for me as it can be applied to most areas of business where multiple success indicators need to be held in tension.
Thanks to Brian for a great reminder that "Look at my arms" needs to be followed with "...AND my calfs."
