Okay, I don't know that Google is indeed punishing us, but here's what a Google Maps search result looks like when I enter the search terms "Chevrolet dealer in Chester, Virginia."  Screen shot below.

This has been going on for 2-3 weeks, coinciding with the changes in the Google Places pages that we have been discussing here on ADM and elsewhere.  We have a decent Places page, by the way, no problem there.

See that red dot at Chester on the map?  That's our location.  No push pin.  No search result on the left.  We are the only Chevrolet dealer literally in Chester.  Yet 10 other dealer's (including two closed Chevy locations and one Buick/GMC non-Chevy) Places pages do show up in the search results A-J.  Why does this occur?  Have you dealt with this issue with your store's own Places page?

Similar results appear when the search term "Richmond, Virginia" is substituted.  Push pins all around us, none for us.  We were coming up high in the results before this change.

Let me know what I can do to fix this.  Thanks!

The screen shot Keith emailed me.

Here's Keith's screen shot; I can see the little red dot.  It's there.  Ed, I also get a pushpin if I do zoom in, but the initial result is vexing.  It will take a few days, minimum, to get this working right.  It will be worth it to fix it.  A side note, we have been pleased with SERP, overall.  Vin Solutions has been doing a good job on our website SEO, as has Cobalt on our OEM website SEM and SEO.  It never ends, and Tim Jennings' analogy comes to mind here; on a good day, we are like a surgeon doing triage.  Some times it's the heart, some times it's a leg, some times it's the brain; but at least we are keeping the patient alive.

Josh, it's not there in the graphic I emailed to you NOR in the list of places in that graphic.  I'm sure it's some geo tuning, but it's odd that everyone else is there.  The good news is that your website ranks #1 SERP, regardless!

Thank you, everyone for your help.  To summarize, I have been advised to take two important actions.

-- Use one consistent phone # which is my white pages local number that we own.

-- Get all other directories, i.e. Insider Pages,,, Citysearch, to list us with the same exact business name, street address and phone number that is used in our Google Places listing.

Keith, thanks.  You can scroll over the little red dot and get our places page to come up if the blue push pin for Colonial Honda doesn't get in your way.  Our account is verified and active.

Yes I can

Ed, can you actually see his places page offered or get to it?

Josh - I'm still seeing you - as a red dot, not a pushpin - but you're there. On one search your dot was hidden behind a blue Google Boost pushpin for another dealer (Honda, I think)

We had a GP glitch during the last weeks, and our GP disappeared for about two days.  Google Places help forums say that can happen sometimes, no explanation.  What's your GP status in your account?
