What it Takes to Clean Up a Classic Car on Your Own

According to many people, a classic car is a vehicle that loses value over time. To the owner, it is an investment that gets better over time with careful attention. There are a few tools you need to clean and renovate your ideal classic car. For maintenance, here are some tips for updating and keeping your car in great condition.

Pressure Washer

The pressure washer is made for every heavy-duty cleaning task, whether you need to clean debris off the driveway, or rinse the side of the house. An additional task is to rid your car's exterior of stains that have collected over many years. One of the most effective ways to clean deep, ingrained stains is to use high pressure water. Your classic car may have peeling paint, but you are not likely to cause further damage to its exterior.

Household Cleaning Items

Collect common household cleaning items, such as a vacuum, cloths, dusters, and sweepers. A classic car is likely to contain trash that has piled up for decades. Sweep first and then vacuum as the most important step to clean a vintage car. Buy a portable vacuum that allows you to erase years of bad habits in a few minutes. Review the list of ingredients because many people are concerned about ingredients they cannot pronounce. If you plan to use a classic car in the long term, worry about the long-term effects of inhaling chemical fumes. Buy vinegar and other basic chemicals that are just as effective as commercial products.

Even your choice of cleaning cloth is important - any cloth does not pick up stains like a microfiber towel does. The specially designed fibers pick up more dirt and require fewer washes. Use this cloth to clean the interior and exterior components of the car.

Safety in Cleaning

Clean to keep your car and its drivers safe. Clean the windshield, back window, and lights to improve the vehicle's safety. Cleaning every inch of your car is also a way to check for damages that need immediate repairs. A vintage car is uniquely designed and looks like no other modern car does. Cleaning this car to make it shinier is just increasing its appeal to thieves. Consider the importance of your investment, and schedule a security system installation like you would install a home security system.

Professional cleaning a classic car is an option, but not recommended for any lover of vintage items. Your own caring hands, and a few helpful cleaning tools, are needed to maintain the cleanliness of your prized vehicle.
