What Cash for Clunkers Domain Did You Get?

This tickles me. I haven't had time to put anything up yet, but I got just the other day .I love how people buy the dot coms and other familiar extensions and completely avoid some of the other extensions. Most rank high with google anyway if you have the right SEO. Not having .com in your mini-site is not the kiss of death. If nobody is using the dot com, where else will they land when those keywords are searched. Keywords in a domain name, no matter what extension, will carry a lot of weight with google. So if you're site is set up right, it could even beat the dot coms.

BTW, this is a funny story, I had a domain scalper refuse to sell a friend of mine a domain for less than $70,000. he bought eveything else, and branded it as a dot net. They'll hold on to the .com for years, but at this point, it's probably only worth $7.20, through godaddy. Moral of this story: You don't need a dot com to win.

So what cash for clunkers domain did you get for a mini-site?

I got an email today asking what is the ws extension. ws has probably the most unusual background of any of the extensions. It was made for the small island of Samoa. Michael Reed and Alan Ezeir the CEO's and founders of GDI or Global Domains International which is the company responsible for registering the .ws extension decided to come up with an alternative to .com. There plan was to corner the market on .ws which they would market as meaning "web site". plans fell though, other companies moved in and the whole plan collapsed. The neat thing is, many search engines give it weight in the U.S.and if you mention ws standing for web site in your site it normally works out just fine.
