Totalled Your Car? 3 Paths For Getting Back On Track

A totaled car can be a major headache.
It’s not just that your car has been damaged—it’s dealing with the fact that your car is essentially gone. There’s no easy way to move forward, especially if you aren’t in a good financial situation. Fortunately, you can follow the three paths below to get back on track.

Call Your Insurance Company

One of the first calls you should make after totaling your car is to your insurance company. Unfortunately, a claim related to a total loss can take a long time to process, so you want to get it moving as quickly as possible. Don’t sit around and wait for anyone to contact you—make the phone call yourself so you can discuss your options. This is your best chance to get back on the road and to get any kind of payout for your vehicle. Be prepared to hand over plenty of documentation to get your claim finalized.

File A Suit

If your car was totaled because of the actions of another person, it might be time for you to talk to a lawyer. While suing someone else isn’t always the preferred course of action, this might be the only thing that gets you back in a vehicle. At the very least, you’ll want to have a lawyer on hand so you can talk to the other party’s insurance company. You may be able to get a settlement that will pay out better than your own insurance and that will allow you to get a new car faster.

Look At Used Vehicles

Finally, you’ll want to find another car, like those at Woody Sander Ford, so that you can get back to driving. The payoff amount you get from insurance probably won’t be enough to get you into a new vehicle, but it should be enough to get you started on a good used car. Always work with a reputable dealer and make sure the vehicle you choose will actually fit your needs in the long run. While you may have a little extra cash on hand after the accident, try to realize that this money won’t last forever.

You don’t have to give up driving just because your car was totaled. Talk to your insurance, talk to your lawyer, and make sure you go to a good used car lot in order to get back on the road. If you can follow these simple steps, you’ll be able to bounce back more quickly. A totaled car is never easy to deal with, but you can cut down on your problems by being proactive.
