Top 100 Automotive Blogs To Follow in 2013

When the author (Ron Mays) who assembled and created the ranking for this list of the Top 100 Automotive Blogs and Networks for 2013 first contacted me, I did not know what to expect. I provided him with the info he requested and was pleasantly surprised when The ADM Professional Community came in at number 10 of 100. The infographic he created for this ranking of auto industry and car business networking UGC sites is available below.

Alexander, when I was checking out www.BornRich.com/autos because of your comment, I noticed it is a Glam Media based site... This arouses some suspicion on my part because Glam Media now owns Ning... Since ADM is built on the Ning Platform, maybe that explains our inclusion on the list... I know it's a stretch, but you got me thinking about... why?

BTW, do you guys regularly submit here? http://pingomatic.com. Occurs naturally for WordPress users, but this looks to be developed in some proprietary blog format, NING or something.

Ralph, I couldn't agree more, but what isn't agenda-driven these days?

Anyway, ADM deserves to be higher, IMO. http://www.bornrich.com/autos (does he have a piece of the pie with this site?) it's not even completely dedicated to cars, that's a laugher and http://www.bullz-eye.com/cars same scenario. http://www.indiancarsbikes.in, I suppose he's avoided a demographic (took it global), like North America with an Indian website at #4. India has a giant population, but how many of the 508,062 are robogenic. I could improve your numbers by 1000, given the correct algorithm and decaptcha mechanism in place, no problem.

  1. Members
  2. RSS membership
  3. Google indexed pages
  4. Google PR
  5. Monthly visitors
  6. Pages per visit
  7. Link to page ratio
  8. Compete Alexa,and Technorati ranking
  9. Social signals and popularity (Digg first page stories, Facebook like / shares, etc., Stumbleupon reviews, Delicious bookmarks, Redditt, Propeller, mixx, etc.)
  10. etc.

Alexander, I hear you on the AutoBlog.com comment... Heck, that's why we have AutoBlog content featured on the ADM Showroom page! Like all such lists and directories, I am sure there is an agenda of sorts built into this list as well... I did notice a very international mix of sites on the CouponAudit list which seems to have a skew towards the Middle East and India.

Congrats, I guess. :-)

Whom is Ron Mays and what exact criteria was used in terms of the rankings? I don't see http://www.autoblog.com on this list (especially with the amount of content and organic rank). Personally, I think it's one of the best out there. There are just far too many variables in this equation, VERY subjective. Quality of posts, frequency of posts, number of users, social signals, technology platform, usability, organic search / SERP visibility or what...?

Honestly, I don't have the time to peruse 90 other blogs, nor will I import their news into my personal RSS reader. The blogs ranked from #30 and lower all seem a bit sketchy to me.

I suppose a blog gets a bit lucky with its followers, users become used to a certain interface and functionality and train themselves to literally, like it. It's one of the reasons why so many Facebook users get pissed, when they disrupt their interface design for sake of usability and conversions.

What's great about this site is the number of different posters, quality of posts / threads and frequency.

JD, I think we share the same feelings about the 100 auto blogs listed... Most of these I have not been exposed to previously. The other factor I am having a hard time getting my mind around is what Ron Mays describes as "quality of posts"... What and how do you determine the quality of a blog post? For me, it is something I recognize when I see it, but the bottom line to me is TRUTH.  Does the blog post convey information that is essentially true, thought provoking and may stimulate an action on the part of the reader. Anyways, I now have a list of 99 blog sites that I feel obligated to at least check out!

On one hand, I'm embarrassed to say that I only recognized a handful of those on the list. I guess I need to update my RSS reader.

On the other hand, I'm extremely proud of this community for rocking and rolling into the top 10. Considering that it's specific to industry professionals and that the others are designed to appeal to general automotive enthusiasts, this is a tremendous accomplishment. Way to go Ralph and the ADM community!
