Solutions for independent dealers and brokers

As the Internet Consultant for the Colorado Independent Auto Dealers Assn, I'm looking for solutions for the smaller dealers. Most of the 1170 members are 1 to 5 employees, doing 10 to 40 cars/month, all used.
About 50 are franchise stores on the smaller end of the scale for new cars.

Any suggestions for DMS, inventory, web listing, credit, web marketing, and business management would be appreciated.

A great way to keep your online marketing budget lean is to make sure that you have a website that is built for lead generation and S.E.O. We now offer a website/l Pro-Active Live Chat package just for independent/smaller dealers.

You should look into HomeNet for your Inventory Management System. They're inexpensive but offer many services and features that small independent dealers (as well as large ones) can use to maximize their turn. You can get more info at www.homenetinc.com. They have a bunch of tools available that can get your small dealers on par with their larger competitors. Check them out.

Ralph, thanks for the info. I had no idea ADP was so aggresive into the smaller dealer space.
I'll check it out. Maybe we need you to come present to the Colorado associations (we had 3 from the independent association and one from the franchise assn at Vegas).

Ken,

Thanks for the insightful questions that your blog presents... At ADP Dealer Services their strategy towards independant and small dealers is remarkably different than what I saw when I worked at Reynolds. ADP actually has an entirely seperate DMS system that most people know as ADP w.e.b.Suite 1000 which is primarily designed for the dealers you are seeking to serve in Colorado. You can learn more about the product, it's low cost and high utility to small dealers at:
http://www.adpdealerservices.com/en/solutions/dealer-management-sys...

ADP also offers a strategy called Layered Solutions for small dealers who install w.e.b.Suite 1000 that you will see at the site linked above, but here's the outline for the layed solution approach for small dealers:

"The following layered applications will help your dealership maximize the flexibility and productivity of the w.e.b.Suite1000 Dealer Management System (DMS).

Drive additional revenue with ADP targeted solutions like:
* ADP Call Tracking
* ADP Credit Solutions
* Autocheck Express
* Internet Marketing
* Computerized Vehicle Registration (CVR)
* Pre-Owned Vehicle Analyzer (PVA)..
* Dealer Office Express (DOX)
* Payroll
* Service Pricing
* WarrantyWizard
* ADP Network Phone ASP
* GetWired
* Internet Manager
* Network Solutions"

Within my own group at ADP Digital Marketing, since I came on board 2 years ago, everything we have built has been designed to be "Plug and Play" and set up so that we can sell to dealers on an "ala carte" basis, providing low cost and the ability for smaller dealers to use the "Widget" approach, buying low cost applications that they can plug into even free web sites. For example, our FinanceOnline, BuyOnline and other BusinessOnline modules could be plugged into any web site that excepts embedded code, or at least allows an iFrame... Theoretically, a small dealer could buy a $5 a month "GoDaddy" site, use a $12 a year domain and plug our ADP Digital Marketing Solutions into the site to have a dealer web site. With Inventory services such as HomeNet, Autobase, DealerSolutions and also our very own Digital Motorworks, Inc. (DMi) that same dealer can do what Michael Schumacher did with www.DriveTheBest.com and simply plug the inventory module into a low cost site to have a powerful online presence for less than a few hundred a month in total cost... Not to mention the complete control and ownership of the site!

At ADP Digital Marketing we have even solved for the low cost CRM and Lead Management problem of integration... Our NetTrack Tool is now able to do daily batch integration with just about any DMS, incl;uding the low cost providers like our w.e.b.Suite 1000. And, it is fairly cheap for small stores at $29 a month per user license in a full featured installation at a small dealership. We are currently working on a major upgrade to NetTrack which will make it even more optimized for smaller dealers... This makes sense for ADP since we have a far more robust webCRM full scale CRM application for the bigger w.e.b.Suites 2000 dealers, and we are going to use NetTrack as the CRM/Lead Management tool of choice for the smaller dealers who do not use our more advanced DMS solutions like the new DRIVE and the well proven w.e.b.Suites 2000 systems.

You can learn more about NetTrack at:

Arkona,Dealer Track, VinSolutions. All 3 are effective,interactive and lots of bang for the buck. I believe there are arguments for better individual modules w/in these three,but as an inexpensive, little or no contract, limited out-of-pocket, package deal...my opinion is its hard to beat.

Everything is available as separate modules
