Social Media is Permission Marketing and Permission Selling

I actually got Seth Godin to review this short article here below for me, and he gave some positive feedback (that should tell you how small the world is in the Internet Age, since I cold-emailed a famous author and he wrote back!). It's a few pages on how to look at the articulation of his ground-breaking "Permission Marketing" and the evolution to "Permission Selling" in terms of the Internet and especially modern Social Media. I thought some of the thinkers on here might enjoy it.

Keith, you obviously have a tremendous handle of the information. David will tell you, it is hard to get me to read sometimes (considering I have about 5 books he told me I need to read and I have gone out and bought but haven't finished) but I really enjoyed your article. There was so much good information that I plan on reading it a second time to make sure I got it all!

Thanks Rob and David! It's kind of a longer article than I normally write, but Godin's work in 1999 was such a landmark and social media has such an exact example of the permission side of marketing and selling that I had to write about it. And the way Permission Marketing and Permission Selling blend there . . . I just had an "Oh Yeah!" moment and out the article came. I was so suprised Godin reviewed it for me, too.

I'm no expert, I'm just kind of "long in the tooth" when it comes to marketing and the Internet, and I think Social Media and Permission Marketing/Selling, done right, will be immensely profitable.

Mike! Very well written my friend, you make some very valuable points and make a great case for "Permission Marketing and Selling in the Internet Age."

There has been a fundamental shift in the way people interact with brands, there is no doubt about that. In fact it use to be, back when Seth Godin wrote his book, that Permission Selling was just another way to sell your products, but now, in the year 2010, it is quickly turning into the ONLY way.

It's the time of the consumer, they have a voice, and they now have a vehicle (social media) to champion your brand or destroy it. Thank you again for the GREAT article!
