Safety First: 5 Precautions to Take with Every Vehicle You Drive

Vehicles provide you with untold freedom, convenience, and access to adventure. In the event of an accident, you will want to recruit help from a lawyer like The Jaklitsch Law Group. These benefits also come with a hefty amount of threats should you neglect to practice certain precautions. Below, you will find five precautions you should take with every vehicle you drive.

Watch for Motorcyclists

When the fairer weather arrives in your area, you will begin to notice that there is an increase in the number of motorcyclists sharing the road with you. Motorcyclists are on smaller, less protected vehicles that can be easily missed if you’re not paying attention. A collision with a motorcyclist can cause permanent injury or even death to the driver. This can often lead to lawsuits, so keep a sharp eye open for motorcyclists.

Use Turn Signals

While neglecting to use a turn signal doesn’t always result in a collision, it certainly has caused a fair share of accidents. This is due to the confusion of expecting a car to act in accordance with its lack of a turn signal but it instead turns in an unexpected direction. It may seem like an insignificant thing, but using your turn signals properly can actually save your life, the lives of others, and prevent expensive vehicle damages.

Check Weather before Departing

Driving your vehicle on a clear, sunny day is always the ideal way to enjoy a leisurely car ride. This is rarely the case for many people who live in areas where extreme weather strikes or seasons consistently cycle throughout the year. Before getting into your vehicle, check the weather forecast for your area and use proper safety precautions for any bad weather present.

Buckle up

Seatbelts are uncomfortable, difficult to buckle, and can make you feel a little suffocated. Despite their flaws, seatbelts are responsible for saving many lives each year. Do you and your loved ones a favor by buckling your seatbelt every time you get into a vehicle. It could save your life one day.

Never Text and Drive

There are so many things happening on the road around you that you cannot afford to divert your eyes to your phone to type out a text. There could be a red light coming up, a car turning into your lane or a sudden turn approaching that requires your immediate attention and action. Do not text while driving. No text is worth your life or the life of someone else sharing the road with you.

Regardless of the vehicle in which you’re driving, always adjust the rearview mirror and side mirrors to fit your height and perspective so that you can properly react to your surroundings.
