SafeKEYping: Simple Ways to Protect Your Car Keys

Your car keys are literally the key to your independence.
You would not be able to get very far without your car keys. You may not be aware of the many ways your car keys could be damaged or compromised. This is why you should consider these simple methods for protecting your car keys.

Park Your Own Car

You probably do not think much about it when you hand your keys off to a valet to park your car. However, you should be very careful about doing this. Modern apps make it possible for anyone with a smartphone to take a picture of your car keys and order copies for themselves. If they happen to find out where you live, then stealing your car would be a piece of cake.

Secure Your Key Fob

If you own a newer car, then it is always listening for a signal from your key fob. When it gets the correct signal coming in, then it will open, start the engine or do whatever it is programmed to do upon receiving the right signal. Even if your key fob is in your house, hackers can amplify your key fob signal and easily break into your car. To prevent this from occurring, you must isolate your car key fob by placing it inside an RFID bag, placing it into the freezer or microwave or wrapping it in tin foil to prevent the signal from being hacked.

Keep Your Keys Away from Children

If you have little children, you would be surprised how much damage they could potentially do to your car keys. Young children like to stick keys into electric sockets which can be dangerous to them and your keys. Alternatively, children may try to bend or break your keys by leveraging them inside a gap between two solid objects.  If that happens, then you may need to get a car key replacement from a company like The Lock Shop. Chances are that trying to bend your car keys back straight will not work so well-especially if the key has been bent in a twisted fashion.

Your car keys are an important item that requires some thought as to how to protect them from being damaged or used to steal your car. From hackers to small children, you must always be on the lookout for how to keep your keys out of other people’s hands and isolated from undesirable wireless use. If you take the right steps to protect your car keys, then both your car keys and your car should be relatively safe.
