QR codes into your Photos for 3rd party sites

I started doing Internet sales in 1997 and since then I have always tried to
stay ahead of the next dealership, doing things that no other dealer is doing.
So one of my biggest challenge that I never got resolved, until now, was to find
a way to include a hyper link into my listings on Autotrader and to
direct customers back to my site or any where else I would like for them to go.
To be up front, I am a vAuto rep for the store Moberly Motors in Moberly MO, and
they gave me the permission to test an idea I had to include a QR code into
their photos to see if it would work on sites like Autotrader and So I
took the url address that they had on their site for a video they did on market
based pricing then created a QR code to link to the video. They do their photo
management in our tool so I put the code as the second photo and it WORKED!!! I
think this is huge!!! You can link customers to any site or just have it give
them a text message about the car.
Click here to see the listing on Autotrader and try it yourself and let me know
what your thoughts are:

Jasen, are you still using QR codes in vehicle listing photos?

Let technology speak for itself with the flexibility of a QR code promotion!  Whether you're looking to motivate a customer to purchase, drive traffic to your location, or simply increase Web site inquiries, a QR code promotion can help.  Consumers will scan a quick-response 2D bar code using their mobile device for a chance to win Free Fuel for Life and other big prizes.  When you have a winner, SCA gives you the money to award the prizes.

Demo a QR code promotion now.  Simply scan this code with a smartphone, enter your phone number, and instantly see what you have won!

Don't have a QR reader?  Search "QR reader" in your mobile device's application store to get your QR reader now.  May not be available on all devices.  Go to if you do not have a smartphone.

they don't need to get their phone out to see my ad or not get the same content that they would get on any additional listing, its just added info or anything else i would want. I don't know if you noticed but when i was just looking your reply, I noticed the ad next to it, it showed this

Again I understand what’s in for us. :)

As a consumer If I am in front of my computer and the ad makes go get my phone for the information I “possibly” want, I will be annoyed.  With that said if we upset one, but moved 4 people out of the 3rd party space into dealer space, then it’s worth it. I don’t want to be staring at my pc and holding my mobile device. That make sense?

About 6 moths ago, I started using a QR code as a profile picture on smaller Social Media Sites. The code drives them back to my Facebook  Wall where I spend most of my social time….

I think the tech savvy shopper will appreciate a tech savvy dealer and I don’t think it will affect the average consumer one way or the other.

I don't think this is important on the dealer site because the dealer has more control over adding links and directing people where to go. But when it comes to the sites like Autotrader, and other classified sites, I think this would be a way to have more interaction with the customer, give them something no one else is giving them and the listing has something different than the traditional ad. If the internet is the new print media then why not have a QR code on sites that I have limited control of? The purpose for the QR code in the print ad is to get you more information then was was available in the ad, I would do the same thing here

I was excited a year  ago when Google sent me some snail mail:

QR code for front door that takes people to the dealership maps/place page.

I understand the marketing and “What’s in it for us” But, Are we asking our customer who are sting in front of a computer to pull out their smart phone and now retrieve information front their mobile device?  If you’re not “wired geek” Will this turn off some people like a wild goose chase??

QR Codes are the way of the future…
