Preventative Repair: How to Prep Your Car for the Unexpected

Preparing your car for unexpected troubles on the road can make all the difference in you being stranded on the roads or having to pay for emergency repairs. Taking the time today to do simple maintenance checks will ensure you’re driving safely down the road this season. Consider these tips for preparing your car for unexpected troubles on the road.

Routine Tire Inspections

Most drivers do not give the tires on their vehicle any thought until they wind up with a flat tire and are stranded at the side of the road. Taking a closer look at the tires, it might become evident there is uneven tread wear, bulges in the tires, or the tread is separating from the rest of the tire. In either case, the tires should be taken to a service center every other oil change so they can be rotated and inspected for these concerns. Uneven wear will lessen the life of the tire and affect front-end alignment too.

Preventative Brake Repair

The last thing that you want to discover when driving is that you need to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident and the pedal goes all the way to the floor. There are too many moving parts in the braking system to wait for trouble before you seek help. Taking the vehicle in for preventative brake maintenance will give the experts a better chance to look at all those parts before sending you back on your way.

Change Fluids

The fluids in the engine keep all the moving parts lubricated when that engine reaches scorching hot temperatures. The longer you go between fluid changes, the more those fluids break down. When you get the fluids changed regularly, the service center techs add the right grades for the current season that will protect your engine better.

Clean and Replace Filters

Filters in the car engine are designed to keep contaminants from getting into the system and disrupting the way the vehicle runs. Filters should be inspected and cleaned monthly, and if they are too soiled, replaced. There could be a number of air filters in the engine that should be inspected on a consistent basis.

These simple preventative maintenance tips will also do something else to improve your ride this season. Having the professionals putting eyes on your vehicle will enable them to use their experience to spot trouble elsewhere on the car while it is just a minor repair instead of it becoming a costly emergency on the highway.
