News from Google: Customer Reviews Now in Search Ads

Josh Escusa, Cobalt Reputation Management Specialist

Google Software Engineer Kumar Dabbiru recently announced review extensions for your search ads. Dealerships that use Google Adwords can now incorporate great customer feedback into their ads in the form of a direct quote or summary statement. This screenshot from Dabbiru’s post shows what these ads will look like.

Dealerships using Cobalt's dealer reputation management solution and one of Cobalt's digital advertising packages have had the option to highlight customer reviews in their display and remarketing ads since February 2013. Cobalt's 5 Star Ads feature direct quotes from recent customer experiences focused on anything from new car sales, to service appointments, to overall customer satisfaction.

The impact of your reputation on your advertising has been proven, and review-based remarketing ads can have great success when paired with optimal websites.

Google is also embracing the placement of reviews in forms of digital advertising by offering their Adword customers the ability to incorporate reviews in paid search ads.

Google notes that the source of reviews for Adwords search ads must be reputable third party sites. Your Google listing is a perfect example of what Google would consider a reputable site. So you'll want to make sure you're keeping your listing up-to-date and that you're paying attention to your customer’s reviews and responding accordingly.

Monitoring Made Easier

Google has also recently made it easier for you to monitor your listing with some new features in your Google+ Dashboard. We've known these updates were coming as early as April when they started rolling out to select accounts and they're now beginning to appear across all Google accounts.

One of the most noticeable improvements--- no longer do you need to log into Google Places for Business separately to edit your business information, check your visitor statistics, or manage your offers. All of this can now be conveniently managed on the same platform that you manage your social media.

Here are some of the other features you'll find in this new dashboard:

  • A single tab for updating all of your business information such as the address, store hours, and phone numbers
  • An easy access point for starting a hangout or sharing your photos, videos, and links
  • Search Engine Insights on your page’s traffic and clicks
  • A list of the top searches that people typed in Google to find your business page
  • A map of the top locations of customers requesting driving directions
  • Quick links for managing your Google Ads and Google Offers

The New Dashboard Revealed

To view Google's new dashboard, sign in to Google and switch to your business page manager. You can view the new Google Dashboard by clicking on the Dashboard icon in the navigation menu.

Here's an example of what the new platform looks like:

The newly designed dashboard is a welcomed addition to your reputation management arsenal. Not only is this platform more organized and easier to manage, it's also more visually appealing. And now your Google page will also be a great source of customer-generated reviews that can now be leveraged in your search advertising.

As time goes by Google plans to edit existing features and add more to the Dashboard. Be sure to check back with us to stay on top of theses updates as they come.

Until then, what do you think about the addition of review extensions in your search ads? Will you be taking advantage of this unique opportunity to showcase your customer reviews in your advertising?
