New Drivers: How to Find the Safest and Best Car for Your Young Teen Drivers

When your teenagers are ready for their first vehicle, you probably feel a mix of both excitement and trepidation.
While you’re probably happy to no longer have to drive them everywhere, you are also worried about the safety of their cars. Taking some time to research the safest and best cars can help to reduce these concerns.

Consider What Their Used To

Whether your kids attended a driver’s education program at their schools, took private lessons or learned under your guidance, they had to have trained in a vehicle. Consider purchasing a vehicle that is the same make and model as the one that they trained in. Generally, newer cars are safer than older ones. In other words, if your teenagers learned how to drive in older cars, consider purchasing a newer version of these vehicles. Feeling comfortable in a car is important for safety.

Review Safety Ratings

As you’re checking out different cars, you and your kids might be lured in by flashy designs and the latest technological tools. While having these features in the car is enjoyable, the places like the Young Subaru dealership stresses the importance of making safety a priority. Safety ratings on different vehicles are accessible with ease, so you should read through to see which car makes the most sense.

Go Big

Your kids might have long dreamed of driving a little convertible, but these cars do not usually protect against damage the way that a bigger vehicle would. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety suggests that you purchase a larger car. You could opt for a larger sedan or for a sports utility vehicle. Purchasing one of these styles can help to keep your kids safe in the event that an accident does occur.

Review Emergency Features

Your hope is that a serious situation is not going to come into fruition when your teenagers are driving, but you should make sure that they are prepared in the event that such an incident does occur. For example, some vehicles come with a system that will allow your teenagers to push a button and to have emergency services immediately arrive at the scene. You can also look into cars that have a GPS in them so that your teenagers do not need to look at their phones while they are driving.

As you are shopping around for cars for your teenagers, you have a number of items to keep in mind. Make sure to bring safety to the forefront.
