Aiming for a new greener planet, top brands are now investing for environmentally friendly cars, also referred to as green cars or eco-friendly cars. These cars are considered safe for their low emission of carbon that are hazardous for climatic conditions and health as well as make less usage of toxic fuels such as bio-diesel, ethanol and natural gas. Whether it is green for the planet or for your pocket, investing for these eco-friendly vehicles, considered as fuel efficient, saves your hard earned money.
The dream in now a reality. The budding technological world has now dazzled the eyes with its mind blowing innovations in fuel efficient cars that has changed the face of the auto business industry. The splurge has raised the concern and interest level of several top brands and companies for green movement, inducing them to invest and launch more of environment friendly cars.
Innovative Environment Friendly Vehicles for a Greener Planet
Hybrid cars, utilizing two or more distinct power sources, function through capturing of energy that is created through applications of brakes. The energy is stored in the batteries that is later used instead of the fuel. The hybrid car is designed with small fuel efficient gas engine together with electric motor that aids the functioning of the engine.
There are two different types of gasoline electric hybrid cars i.e. series hybrid and parallel hybrid. In the former one the gasoline engine either charges the batteries or powers an electric motor to provide power to the vehicle while in the later type an electric motor or gasoline engine together function for moving the car. Besides these, there are other sources of power too like electromagnetic fields, radio waves, petrol, liquid nitrogen and hydrogen.
These cars are now increasingly being used for emitting less carbon dioxide and other harmful gases thus, supporting the greenhouse effect. The energy consumed is clean and its components are warrantied. Its usage is so encouraged that even few states in US offer incentives to people investing for hybrid cars.
Vehicles running on fuels from vegetable oil like sunflower, biomass, canola and soybeans are referred to as biodiesel cars. Serving as an essential alternative fuel, it can utilize used and processed vegetable oil that saves huge financial costs.
Electric cars are propelled by electric motors that are powered by electrical energy stored in batteries or other form of energy storing device. When required these are charged by plugging into the grid. The electric motors offer instant torque that gives smooth acceleration power.
These cars are energy efficient, converting almost 59–62% of the electrical energy to power the car whereas only 17–21% of the energy is used to power by the conventional gasoline vehicles. The electric cars are environmentally friendly, not emitting any form of pollutants.
A unique invention though, these cars run on renewable fuel, ethanol that is derived from starch crops like corn, wheat or barley. These cars make 85% usage of ethanol and the remaining 15% usage of unleaded gasoline with increased octane and reduced emissions. Ethanol contains low amount of gasoline making emission safer for the environment. The fuel is biodegradable and a renewable fuel, domestically produced for transportation. It is used in varied blends like E10 (10% ethanol, 90% gasoline), or in E85 (a gasoline-ethanol blend containing 51% to 83% ethanol) as per the geographical location or season that reduces greenhouse gas emissions. For higher compression engines ethanol helps the engines to be more efficient.
Natural Gas Cars
Referred to as an essential fossil fuel, natural gas cars are very environment friendly to be used in engine vehicles. Two types of fuels are utilized for the natural gas car: compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas. The natural gas cars engines are resistant to corrosion and also leave less particles in the engine. Moreover, the low emissions of carbon compounds as well as the other fuels discharged are clean and safe for the environment. It is also cost efficient for the low cost of natural gas and its huge availability. As per reports, there are about 142,000 natural gas vehicles on U.S. roads today with 1,325 NGV fueling stations. According to the California’s AT-PZEV standard NGVs have met the strictest emission standards for its lowest exhaust emissions. According to the American Public Transit Association, one-fifth of all transit buses are run on compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquid natural gas (LNG).
Hydrogen run cars are clean burning fuel emitting water vapor and oxygen. It is usually made from varied fossil fuels and methane or produced from using other sources like solar, wind, or nuclear. Hydrogen powered cars utilizes either combustion or electrochemical conversion for converting chemical energy into mechanical energy to propel the cars. There are already several H2ICE (hydrogen internal combustion engine) vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCV's) on the US roads that considerably reduce greenhouse gases.
The Other Eco-Friendly Vehicles
Eco friendly cars are now dominating the automobile industry with majority of the companies now investing on manufacturing eco-friendly cars. The statistical analysis and rising interest level for 'green cars' reflects a gleaming future for environmentally friendly cars.
