Recap:  US Car Sales for Month of July

With many car buyers worrying about a potential double dip in the U.S. economy, auto sales this past month have been sluggish.   However, auto retailers in the U.S. have eked out about 1.1. million vehicles sold for July 2011.  This is a little less than a one percent increase from July 2010.

Many US Car Dealers have noticed that the federal debt ceiling debate, higher car/gas prices and spotty inventory shortages have hurt car sales.   In gearing up for our third and fourth quarter the teams at Automotive Digital Marketing and Tier10 Marketing wonder if sales will by typical for 2011 and end at the 13 million vehicle mark.

Although the auto industry DID start off strong this year, with sales on pace to easily cross 13 million vehicles, US new car and light duty truck sales have slowed since the Japanese earthquake and tsunami in March. The natural disaster in Japan upended auto production internationally by slashing the supply of auto parts needed to manufacture cars, thereby curtailing output from auto manufacturing factories. These factory disruptions have slashed the availability of many cars, especially Toyotas and Hondas, resulting in many dealers beginning to raise the prices required to get a deal approved on most makes of new cars and light duty trucks.

According to Ward's AutoInfoBank here is the breakdown for July 2011’s U.S. auto industry performance.
