Interesting article about 20-something conumdrum

This interesting Forbes article was recently brought to my attention. Though it was published earlier last year, the message is that people's lives are still defined in great measure during their 20's, but that the current crop is in a virtual limbo due to the economy and changing lifestyles. Since our industry is tied to their success - or failure - as both clients AND employment candidates, understanding the dynamics affecting their emotions is crucial.

Here is one example from the article:

On the job, they need to calm down and get to work. Because the 20-something brain hasn’t fully matured and is still developing its frontal lobe, which is in charge of overriding emotion with reason, 20-somethings are more sensitive to surprise and criticism, says Jay. Day-to-day events loom larger in their minds. A terse email is taken personally. A boss’s disapproval elicits fear and contempt. Step back and get some perspective, she advises. “You’re not going to be fired because your boss is angry.”

Here is a comedic monologue from a 20 year-old that has more than 151k hits and dozens of video responses from peers. . .

Though the girl in the video seems to have the same indecision that has affected nearly everyone at that stage in life, the limited options due to the economy can paralyze this group into wasting precious time that can't be recovered.
