Dealer Website Innovation Inspired by Scratchpad

I was planning a vacation on a few months ago. I'm impressed with the work they do. From their social notifications to their "scratchpad" feature, I think they really hit a home run.

The last time I was shopping for my next car, my salesperson and I went through the dealers' website while she wrote down a list of stock numbers on a post-it note. I thought to myself - wouldn't it be great if they had a "scratchpad" just like Expedia's?

Most of the features dealer website vendors market to dealers are to reach more customers. But their own website is a valuable tool to salespeople within the dealership. They're writing down stock #'s on post-it notes?!

There's got to be a better way....

Each vehicle is added to a list of recently viewed vehicles.

The list itself is a slide-out panel, so it doesn't take up valuable screen real estate. Send that list to yourself and/or others via email or SMS/text. The list contains links to the vehicle on your website along with pricing information. Problem solved!

Thanks Ralph! I don't want to take credit for the UsedCarKing stuff, though. That was another team that developed that. But it is one of my favorite dealer sites :) I think they set a great example. I also have social login built into the system but that's for a future post!

Those who come up with innovative ideas, who see the Internet and the social media tools as important to the future of retail automobile sales often express frustration over the slow speed of the industry to adopt these new ideas.  I learned a lesson as a dealer that made my company better, more efficient and more profitable; its good to be second.  Dealers who take the lead on new, innovative ideas invest a great deal more time and money to see those ideas implemented than dealers who wait, patiently, and then come in as a strong number 2.  Frustrating for seeing these new ideas executed but, good business practice to a dealership owner.

It takes a lot to make a positive impression on me when it comes to features being added to a car dealer website... But, I have to admit to being HIGHLY impressed with the innovations I found on the dealer website listed in Chris Cachor's ADM profile and reference in this article. First and foremost, the site's use of Facebook's social profile login (something I recently posted an article about) is super easy to use and very smooth. It also successfully grabs the consumer's data and in a very user friendly way discloses to the consumer that the dealership has harvested their data from the user's Facebook profile... Here are a few screenshots from this morning:

I was curious, so I clicked the registration tab on the upper left...

My curiosity even further piqued, I clicked to use my Facebook profile to register onto the dealership's website...

A seamlessly smooth and very customer friendly experience!
