Career ladder is somehow like career development sometimes, it is interchangeably used with career path. The boom or growth of an employee in an organization referred as career ladder. In your first career of moving into the business world it is very easy to get puzzled with all the possibilities. You have to search for the possible career opportunities; your initial research will show hundreds of different types of positions. First of all you have to determine your initial career path before you decide on your future company or position.

There are normally only 2 basic career paths as you begin to work in the business world Vertical and Horizontal. Most of the time employees move vertically in organizations but also move cross-functionally to a different type of job role. The Vertical career path permits you to move straightforwardly upward. The Horizontal career path forces you to make a tangential move on the career ladder where you will need to discover and put together new skills and abilities before moving up to your target position.

Nowadays marketing becomes an essential tool for businesses to get success and goodwill also. Most flourishing and booming companies chalk out a marketing career ladder for the employees to give them a realistic and rational picture of their position in the coming time in order to retain them. Having a clear idea about job responsibilities and future positions, the employee and the company can work to discover areas where significant training is required for the employee to put together his competencies to execute future job requirements.

A wide range marketing areas are available; some professionals of marketing field have one specialty area, while others handle multiple areas. Mainly it is the Marketer’s job to determine how price, product, place and promotion help their company succeed.

A simple marketing career ladder of a financial firm is comprises of Financial Consultant, Sales Manager, Assistant District Manager, District Manager and National Agency Director from lower to upper level. For other firms it could be Research Assistant at the bottom, Research Executive, Research Manager, Senior Research Manager, Research Director and Director on the top.

On the other hand a bit complex ladder of marketing and sales encompasses Sales and Support Representative, Retail Sales Consultant, Assistant Store Manager, Retail Store Manager, Area Retail Sales Manager, Director of Sales and Vise President Sales Operations/General Manager from downward to upward hierarchy.

In spite of taking the graduate or non-graduate entry route, usually people begin their marketing career as a Marketing Executive/Assistant Brand Managers, Product Managers or the Marketing Coordinators. The particular tasks and responsibilities of the Marketing Executive changes from business to business. These are largely determined by the size of the organization where you are employed and also the significance of marketing within the company.

Promoting to the position of Senior Marketing Executive will give you greater responsibility and will set you in good career path for moving into a Marketing Manager, and afterward to Marketing Director.
