Flipboard Converts Social Media Data Streams into WOW

Flipboard AppRobert Scoble on his blog Scobleizer.com broke a story about some new technology called Flipboard and it included the video included below which I was drawn to watch to completion.

The Flipboard software running on an iPad is a perfect example of how many innovations will be coming for the iPad in the coming year.

Flipboard is very exciting for me since I use social media regularly and have many people I want to stay in touch with; personally and for business. The Flipboard software is a social media aggregator and presents the social media streams in a magazine format.

It is mind-blowing how cool this application take an ugly stream of data and turns it into something very easy to read and with full content. For example, Flipboard takes a 140 character tweet and follows the link and finds the related story and presents it in an attractive format.

Take a moment to view the video and tell me if you agree that Flipboard is a really cool way to get rich data and stories from your social media streams.

I'll be checking out this iPad application and will provide some feedback. And when you setup your Flipboard, please make sure you include my Twitter and Facebook feeds below:

Too funny Brian I just wrote about this today too in a post called Be your own producer with social magazines. Probably should have called it "Be your own editor" though.

I don't use an iPad and have not been able to play with these apps, but there is no question that we as consumers need tools like this that can filter all the noise. My approach to filtering noise is to stop following people and keep those I follow to a minimal number, then shuffle those people around once in a while.

If people want to use these apps to filter in the useless mundane material out there then more power to them. That's their prerogative.

Hi Brian,

As always -- thanks for sharing! Your post points out and prioritizes the value of the iPad and in specific this new application to organize social media using the iPad hardware. I am not yet an iPad user, however, I am actively involved in helping to develop and market several vendor applications that plan to capitalize on the unique portability of the device.

I would like to advise everyone to -- as you suggested -- watch the entire video since I was also drawn in by the visions and experiences of the founder of FlipBoard as well as the interviewer. They referenced several other applications attempting to organize the data captured on social media sites like Face Book and Twitter which I believe represent the current weaknes and potential strength of social media. Sorting through posts and linked content to efficiently manage the networks being built on social media sites is the only way to provide a realistic R.O.I. for auto dealers. The various applications dicussed like TweetDeck and Twitter Lists fall short -- although they are headed in the right direction.

The ability of FlipBoard to convert boring lists of posts and links on Twitter and Face Book into a more user friendly magazine like format is similar to ronsmap's ability to convert a list of vehicles to a single page in a Google Map like geo-targeted environment to eliminate search engine fatique and improve the user's experience on the platform so of course I "get it." Putting information onto online communication platforms is easy -- it is getting it out that matters!

Great find and again -- thanks for sharing. But then again, what are friends and ADM for!
