ADM serves Car Dealers, Automotive Marketing Pros and Internet Sales Managers
In preparation for their IPO, Facebook is extending its reach into the real world by releasing an in-vehicle app that will work with vehicles equipped with GPS and Bluetooth capabilities. The "Drive My Status" app is designed to allow people to stay connected at all times to their social networking by verbalizing status updates over the speakers of bluetooth-connected vehicles.
Whenever Facebook friends who are tagged as "BFFs" on Facebook update their status, the vehicle's stereo will broadcast the status via the car speakers if the radio is currently on. In addition, Facebook is working with some manufacturers including Mercedes and Nissan to display images on the windshield through a heads-up-display (HUD).
The app will be free and preloaded onto many new vehicles starting with future 2013 and 2014 models depending on the manufacturer. This came as a big surprise to many in the industry until they remembered that it was posted on April 1st.
