The dealers who "get it" are really making a push to have their sales and/or BDC teams proactively get reviews on Google Places and the other review sites. This is great, but there's something else that's easier and potentially more important that should be implemented in the review process.
Google is putting a lot of emphasis on their various +1 systems. I say "various" because technically speaking they are shrouding different capacities into a button that looks the same but has a different purpose depending on where it's placed.
In search and on a website, the +1 button has been shown to have a strong impact on search rankings. The personalized component is exceedingly clear - anyone who is logged into Google when they search can see how the +1 button changes what they see and where they see it. There has been semi-confirmed speculation that this can be applied to unauthenticated searches as well.
There are 3 ways to get more +1s for your website:
1) Ideally, the customer will be on their mobile device logged into Google (if they have an Android device, they're probably logged in already). From there while waiting for delivery, a trained sales professional should ask them for a little help. If they wouldn't mind searching for a particular keyword like "Los Angeles Honda Dealers" and clicking on the +1 button under the dealer's name, that would be great.
2) It takes a truly in-control and motivated salesperson to do the ideal situation, so the most likely scenario is directing the customer to the website itself and asking them to click on the +1 button to demonstrate their satisfaction with the sale and the dealership's treatment of them.
3) Email a link. This is the worst-case scenario but something is better than nothing.
