Creative Approach to Become Liked on Facebook

The Manus Group is not exactly a highly recognized brand like Toyota or Chevrolet.  You might be in the same boat or your might just want to stand out from the other name brand dealer down the street.  Social Media Marketing is about standing out and being popular.  Yes, it takes us all back to those high school days where some of us excelled at being popular and some of us did not.  Just like in High School, to be popular in Social Media, you have to have people like you, follow you, be-friend you, etc.  So, how do you stand out from the rest of the “kids” on the blacktop trying to be popular?  Think back to high school, most of the popular kids were popular because they had something that made them stand out.  They may not have known it, but they were developing their brand image.

I took a lesson from my high school days where the most popular guy on campus was our senior class president.  I remember his campaign for this role.  He shared why as a collective group we should all “like” him as our class president.  He spoke about what he had to offer and what we, as a class, would get in exchange.  It seemed to work for him, so I thought I would try the same concept when striving to become popular on Facebook.  Popularity for popularity sake is not what I am looking for.  Just like my former class president, I am really only interested in an audience of people who want to engage in my offers.  So, I took another cue from high school politics and decided we need a memorable slogan and some campaign posters to but on the halls of Facebook, in the form of a landing page.  Information on this landing page would give viewers information about The Manus Group and a way to remember us, allowing them to make an informed choice to connect with us.

Before the creation of our Facebook landing page, guests were greeted at our company fan page by there ever present Facebook “Me” wall.  Regardless of whether a visitor was familiar with The Manus Group or not, the Facebook “Me” wall content can be as scattered as a box of photos, newspaper clippings and certificates of appreciation.  The Manus Group needed a clear and concise representation of who we are and what we have to offer to our fans.  That became the starting point for building a landing page that makes us stand out.  Now when you click on http://www.facebook.com/TheManusGroup, visitors who are not already a fan of The Manus Group are taken to the below landing page.  This landing page has a left hand navigational bar with a blue arrow and The Manus Group as a featured tab.  This is a tab provided my My Tab, which I will cover below.

Fans of The Manus Group that click on http://www.facebook.com/TheManusGroup are taken to The Manus Group Facebook “Me” wall, where they can see all the comings and going from our staff.  When a fan clicks on the left hand navigation that has the blue arrow and The Manus Group, they are greeted by a different landing page.  This landing page is intended for our fans that know something about us but still need information on the services we provide and contact information.

With Google, you can find a multitude of tools to place you landing page on Facebook.  I enlisted the help of My Tab by installing the application from http://www.facebook.com/revealtab.  If you click the “like” button on the My Tab Fan Page, it will give you an example template and instructions for creating your own fan landing page.  I used this template as my jump off point in Photoshop.  You can use any visual media tool to create the art work, just make sure to save for web use.  Also on the My Tab Fan Page, there is a link to Common Questions on the left hand navigation.  Here you will find links on how to customize your tab name, how to make your landing page the default page, etc.  In addition, the left hand navigation for this fan page has quick references for HTML coding for the not quite a web master types.  I have to admit that I found installing my landing pages a bit cumbersome.  With some patience and an understanding there is a moderate learning curve; the slightly painful effort was well worth it.  Not only is our fan base growing, but we are attracting the right kind of fan base and the interaction has increased as a result.
