Loading... Be Patient!

Producers of sweets know that if a person likes some kind of candy from childhood, he will most likely buy them all his life. Something similar happens in poker - players start to play in a certain style and continue to use this style throughout their career. But what is convenient for you is not necessarily correct. In tournament poker at, much of what seems right from the start is completely mistaken.

The average poker player starts with a too tight style, playing mostly semi-premium and premium hands. The sad truth is that these players have remained tight for many years. At the table it is important to be a chameleon, constantly adapting to the conditions of the poker table (stack sizes, your opponent's playing style, tournament time, other factors). Some players start with a loose style and also do not give up for a long time.

The game of poker can be compared with driving a car: we move fast on the highway, but slow down near schools. Our fast driving on the highway does not indicate that we are fans of a fast ride. Simply, this ability is included in the driver's qualification set. Try not to relate yourself to this or that type of player. Follow the game and make the necessary adjustments, which many other players will not do.

If you play too tight, you can learn different ways to make your game more loose. First of all, try to make more reraises (and I'm not talking about semi-premium or premium hands). Do reraises with the hands that you used to call, for example suited Q-J. In addition, in cases where you would normally set up with pocket pairs, take a more aggressive stance and reraise. The share of reraises in the actions of amateurs or novice players is less than 5%. A professional tournament player can easily double this figure, but at the same time do it consciously. Using only a reraise will not heal you from the tightness. The tight players also need to learn how to call more. If you are too tight (and admit it), make a few loose calls to the preflop button or bet or raise on the flop in an attempt to take the pot. Especially if you have a tight image at the table - in most cases this will work for you.

Loose players can make their game more tight if they do not limp and call raises so often. You can often see loose-passive players who are involved in 30% or more of the hands you play, but the percentage of hands when they raise is less than 10%. This means that the player limps or makes an average call in two of the three rallies in which he participates. If you do not take short-term luck into account, these players are guaranteed a reduction in the bankroll. Interestingly, many loosely-passive players reraise less often than many tight players. When tight players do not know what to do, they usually fold. A loose player in such situations usually call. Again, none of the above options is correct or incorrect by default. They just match the parameters of the players' comfort zone.

Be honest with yourself regarding the game style that provides you with a comfort zone. This is the first step to the various methods that you use in the game. Against tight and loose players it's easy to play, it's easy to adapt and easy to win. The heaviest players are those who can switch gears and always keep a hand on the pulse. Become one of these players and learn how to switch your game when necessary. The next time you sit down to play poker, do not forget to diversify your game style and look at players who stick to the same manner.
