Care For Your Car: How To Protect Your Family And Your Ford

Caring for your car is essential to your safety. Luckily, most car maintenance can be done in a minimal amount of time. Taking the time to maintain your car is absolutely essential when it comes to keeping your car and your family safe. Here are just a few tips to help make sure that your family is always safe in your car.

Inflating Your Tires

Proper tire inflation is critical to your safety on the road. According to the Car Bibles website, you should check your tire pressure at least once per week. Tires that are under-inflated or over-inflated result in poor handling, insufficient grip to the pavement and poor fuel economy. Consider investing in a digital air pump to keep in your garage so that you can add air to your tires and achieve the proper psi.

Checking Fluid Levels

Your car contains many essential fluids, including oil, brake fluid, wiper fluid, antifreeze, transmission fluid, battery fluid and power steering fluid, explains the Autos website. Low levels of these fluids could cause your car to overheat, stall or even result in a brake failure. If you do not know how to check these fluid levels, have your mechanic do so when you get your oil changed or tires rotated. An auto insurer such as Northeast Insurance Agency offers policies to cover you in the event of an accident caused by brake failure.

Replacing Wiper Blades

Wiper blades remove the rain and snow so that you can see out of your front and back windshields while driving. They are made of rubber, which wears out after use and constant exposure to the elements. Most wiper blades will need to be replaced every six months. If the blades are leaving streaks of water or squeaking as they work, it is time for a replacement. This is a fast, DIY maintenance task that only takes a few minutes.

Inspecting Lights

Your car has many different lights that are there to increase your visibility to other drivers, to enhance your ability to see in the dark and to signal your intentions to turn or stop. Once each month, check to ensure that all of the lights on your vehicle are working. Be sure to check all of your head lights, tail lights, brake lights and turn signals for proper operation. Replacing a light bulb is a simple DIY repair, or most auto shops will do this for you.

Maintaining your car helps to protect your family. Routine maintenance also makes your vehicle more efficient. For a small amount of money, car maintenance delivers great peace of mind.
