When the temperatures drop you know there is car maintenance tips for winter that may come in handy. To ensure you have the best chance of making it through the winter without problems you have to pay attention to your cars needs more than ever. Here are some suggestions that will hopefully give you an advantage over the low temperatures especially if you live in a part of the country where winter hits your area hard.

Windshield

If you have a small ding in your windshield it is better to fix it before the temperatures start dropping. Once the temperatures drop it places strain on the ding and it can turn into a full blown crack. It is cheaper to take care of repairing it than having to replace your windshield.

Check your fluids

Checking the fluids in your car is an absolute necessity. It is prevention for trouble down the road. It is the best and easiest preventative you can give your car. Change your oil every five thousand kilometers and add anti freeze during the winter months. Check your power steering fluids, brake fluid, radiator fluid and battery fluid.

Battery

Check your battery for wear and tear. Check all the cables for rust and corrosion. If your battery has been used in your car for a long period, it is better to change it out now. Winter can kill a well-used battery and could be the cause of you getting stuck on the road.

Dings and nicks

If your car has a few dings and nicks on it perhaps now is the best time to get them repaired. With winter come all types of moisture which can turn these nicks and dents into very big rust spots. To keep your car in good shape now is the time to touch up any spots you may have on your vehicle.

Other items

Spark plugs, brakes and lights are all an important part of winterizing your car. Spark plugs that are well worn can leave you broke down somewhere other than home. Spark plugs are not costly and it is better to replace them now. Next advice I hear from one guts review writer: Any brake work that is needed should be done before winter (Remember the word "before") . You will likely need them more on slippery roads than you would in the summer.  Check your lights to make sure they are all working properly and if you have doubt about one of them replace it before the cold weather hits.

Car maintenance tips for winter is very important to keep you safe when driving. Most of us procrastinate about repairs and checking your vehicle before winter.  If this checking is not done it can place you at risk on the road not to mention the harm it can do to your car.
