Professional Community for Car Dealers, Automotive Marketers and Sales Managers

Loading... Be Patient!

Is anyone else tired of getting AutoCon SPAM?  Keith Shetterly wrote a great piece on this just a week or so ago and I thought the point was made.  I guess his words were forgotten much too soon.

I am sure that AutoCon will be a great conference, but enough is enough!  If I was going to attend, I'd be signed up already.  I wouldn't wait til the last minute and change my mind when I got a two for one email or if TrueCar or any other vendor decided to offer more scholarships to the event.  I made a decision NOT to attend the event because of the guerilla (SPAM) marketing.

I posted this same photo to the very same facebook groups and online communities that have been so severely spammed over the last months so that maybe, just maybe the people behind the event would listed.  As I am writing this, more AutoCon 2012 promotional posts have gone up on Facebook.

I admire and respect everyone behind AutoCon. I believe wholeheartedly in training and education for car dealers.  I do not agree with nor condone the marketing tactics used to promote this event. It goes against everything we've been told by the same people about using social media.  I'm sorry if my message doesn't sit well with Ralph or Brian, but that's the way I feel and I'm positive that I am not the only one who feels this way.  Thanks for allowing me to post this here on ADM.  I hope it does not get taken down.

I'm on Ralph's side here. We're in control of our own inboxes. Facebook spams you with notifications because it thinks you WANT to hear about the groups you are a part of. If you don't, unlike the page.

Here is a snapshot of a post I made in the AutoCon Facebook Group, and posted similar notices in the other major automotive groups I administer:

Adam, I was trying out the "share" feature in the app for the first time... I manually selected you... Adam Thrasher. I pressed send and when the app didn't seem to respond I pressed it again... I am sorry that because you were my so-called "friend" on Facebook, I thought I could send you one of ten invites the app limits you to sending... My mistake.  And, if you don't want to receive messages from somebody, namely me, then why don't you just unfriend me? Well I went ahead and did your work and disconnected from you, but I think you must like to complain when you take the time to capture screen shots and post this blog, but you were not willing to disconnect from my messages with a single click.  Own up to some level of responsibility... If you do not want to receive messages from me or anyone else, then opt out... If you do not want to receive group update messages, then opt out.  Your complaint is not valid because in your own words you were already irritated by receiving my messages, so why didn't you do the responsible thing and opt out?
