Looking back, I realized I should have written: "Always Be Challenged."
In the chapter I wrote about a meeting I attended with a group of service managers and the CFO. I just passed out the results of my evaluation and the CFO siezed the report and started flipping through the pages quietly when suddenly he stopped and then he burst out with "Look at ____'s store! He is doing the worst!"
It's hard to get your people looking at the Goal you set in front of them if all you are doing is making them look at the floor.
It's not just finding the bad stuff. Anybody can do that. You don't need a degree to read a report and determine the down side.
Always Be Challenged means you are always on a quest for improvement.
Always Be Challenged means finding ways to inspire your team to excel.
Always Be Challenged means that you find ways to do things differently.
Always Be Challenged means seeing the obstacle for what it really is.
Always Be Challenged is the reason we put our shoes on and walk out the front door every day.
