The last couple days have been a bit of a roller coaster for Detroit. The former Big Three gave Detroit something to smile about by leading U.S. May new car sales; the Mercury brand comes to a necessary, but sad end; and Detroit Tiger Armando Galarraga has a record throwing game taken from him purely because of human error. Unfortunately, without instant replay, the call stands.
Could the Mercury brand been saved? Should Ford have created something very different and unique years ago or would the results have been the same. Either way, right now, it is the right decision.
I’m sure there will be plenty of debates similar to the all the chatter and emotion regarding the call made last night by Jim Joyce. Dealerships are impacted and you always hate to hear that particularly after the last couple years. Hopefully, May new car sales represent the start of a positive trend.
But like Armando, Detroit and the American auto industry continue to take the highs with the lows and then they show up the next day, continue to train, learn, play and will await another great showing.
