When it comes to social media, there's always something more we can do to improve. Trying new features and adopting simple changes are great ways to increase engagement and to ensure you aren't left behind in the ever evolving world of social media. Here are few simple things you can do today that may (or may not) pay off in the long run.
Strategically Time Your Tweets
Are you getting the most out of Twitter? It’s common knowledge that certain times are better than others to post on twitter, but what about specifically for you and your followers? Now there’s a tool you can use to determine when followers are most engaged with your Twitter account. Tweriod helps you discover when your followers are likely to be online, the best time for you to post tweets and when your tweets are getting the most exposure. The concept is simple; Tweriod connects to your account, evaluates your followers, and then sends the report back to you. So how does it work? Tweroid takes a list of followers from your Twitter account and analyze their last 200 tweets. Based on when they tweet every day, the reports are generated. If you're interested in trying it out, Tweroid allows you to sign up for a free analysis that evaluates up to 1000 of your followers.
Use the Google+ Formatting Option
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Google+ is on the move. With 26% of internet users active on the site, Google+ now outranks both YouTube and Twitter. In addition, Google+ boasts the largest male population of social networkers, with 70 percent of its users being men. With these numbers in mind, it’s clear that Google+ deserves attention. So how do you make your post stand out? Unlike Twitter or Facebook, Google+ has formatting options that allow you to post with keywords, bold, links and images. For a quick way to add style to your posts, try using the following formatting shortcuts:
Use underscores to italicize. _ italics_ → italics
Use asterisks to bold. * bold* → bold
Use hyphens to strikethrough. - strikethrough - → strikethrough
Obviously, you don't want to overdo it with bold or italics, however, strategically enhancing your text will help prevent your posts from being lost in the social media stream.
Optimize Youtube with Playlists
Organizing your videos into curated playlists is a great way to increase your Youtube presence. When you share videos as part of a playlist, YouTube automatically plays the next video on the list. Simply creating and sharing playlists is a quick and easy way to increase your time-on-page and time-on-site metrics.
When you have multiple videos you are looking to promote, make sure to share the complete playlist URL rather than the single video URL. To share playlists:
Know your Pinterest Reach
As I noted in an earlier blog post, 83.8% of luxury brands have a presence on Pinterest. You most likely have a Pinterest account, but have you been using anything to gauge how effective you are on the site? Similar to Facebook Insights and Google Analytics, PinReach (now owned by Tailwind) is an analytics service that helps users assess their influence on Pinterest. As with most of these sites, the pricing is tiered. On the first level (free) you are able to:
Additional services are available at escalating prices.
Do you already employ some of the above suggestions? If so, how do they work for you?
