5 Remodeling Ideas for Your Pre-Owned Diesel Motor Home

Of course, you are not going to miss out on the famous landmarks that dot the US. But sometimes, you have to walk the non-touristy paths to behold the beautiful things like sleepy villages of the quiet countryside. A motor home can allow you to see the real America. These rolling homes give you the flexibility to see and do the things that conventional tourism cannot facilitate.  A well-equipped motor home will allow you to customize your plan and enjoy homelike comfort at once. However, for the optimal enjoyment, you'll need a unit that meets your specific lifestyle. On the other hand, a small-size coach that lacks on comfy features can never satiate your craving for a unique travel experience. So, how to get the best of the both worlds? Buy a used rig and remodel it to your likings. We would recommend you to consider used diesel motorhomes for sale as their roomy interior allows for a luxurious living on the road. However, if you are not going to share the space with many people, opt for a smaller rig. Whatever model you choose, it's not difficult to personalize it as long as you know how to go about it. Here, we offer a few RV-upgrade ideas that would enhance the overall quality of your vehicle at a fraction of the cost of a new RV.

Interior Face-Lift

Know what? The interior makes a big difference in the RV prices. With the help of innovative interior remodeling and selective upgrades, you can create a homelike ambiance at a fraction of the cost of a brand-new model. Start with the furnishing. Replace that old dinette with tables and chairs. Use the items that help reflect your personality. Similarly, replace the tired-looking sofa, worn-out carpets, and shabby furnishing with some vibrant pieces to breathe in life to the interior decor. By installing wall papers on accent walls, putting up Wainscoting (wall paneling) at strategic places, and covering the windows with matching drapes, you can add more home-like charms to your motor home. Also, change the door handles and plumbing fittings to add some extra shine to your interior.

Exterior Upgrades

Rust can ruin your motor home completely. Therefore, while buying a used motor home, pay attention to this aspect. Be extra careful while checking the areas near wheel arches, as these regions suffer the maximum assaults from the stones and pebbles that pop up now and then as a result of the friction with the road. Thanks to this abrasion, the areas near wheel arch quickly lose the paint coating, exposing the body-metal to the elements and speeding up its decay. So, while buying a used unit, check around the wheel arches meticulously. Don't purchase a vehicle that has a lot of rust on its outer body. However, if the vehicle you are considering has a bolt-on panel, it will be easier for you to fix the rust-induced damage, as these removable surfaces are easy to fix.

Electrical Improvements

Unlike a car, motor homes have complex electrical circuits. The old, broken wiring may become the sources of a lot of issues, such as poor earthing, in the future. Insulation quality also deteriorates with aging. If you have an older diesel motor home model, upgrade all the 240V components to the latest circuit breakers and RCD protection items. Some of the sophisticated devices may trip the 30-amp circuit breaker. That's why you might want to upgrade to 50-amp service. Although the conversion is a bit pricey, the investment is worth every penny. Don't make the mistake of venturing to do it by yourself. Let a professional handle the project, instead.

Most of the latest models have inverters as a default feature. You may not get it if you are buying an older model; and in that case, you’ll have to invest in one. Today’s tech-savvy RV-ers will find this appliance overly useful. Why? You are not going to stay in an RV park every time you need to drop the anchor for the day. There may be times when you will find yourself in a remote location where there is no shore power to plug in. If you have an inverter, it will draw power (12VDC) from your vehicle’s batteries and convert it to 110VAC. You can then use it to run your power-hungry appliances like computers and laptops. Besides, all other everyday gadgets run and charge off 110VAC outlets. So, install an inverter and enjoy all the benefits that come with it.

Flooring Modifications

Give your RV a better flooring. For kitchen and bath – the two areas in your RV that get wet frequently – use vinyl flooring. The glossy flooring will enhance the look and feel of your RV interior by a few notches. While changing the laminate flooring, be wary of the formaldehyde. While stripping the floor of the old layers, the laminates may release formaldehyde gas, which in turn may mix with the inside air of the RV. Make sure that the mechanic follows proper precautions to avoid the pollution.

Working Unit Booster

Most of the older RV models lack this feature simply because computers and Internet were not an integral part of households back then. But today, RV-ers want to lead a connected lifestyle, and for that, they need a dedicated space to place their computer and other peripherals. This upgrade is extremely essential if you plan to work on the go. Even if you do not opt for a full-time RV lifestyle, you will need a computer to manage your financial and other affairs remotely. Having a workstation in your motor home will allow you to travel with the confidence that all information is at your fingertips.

If you are contemplating a full-time RV lifestyle, buy yourself a big motor coach. A diesel rig will be just ideal for your situation. In RV listing sites, you will find hundreds of diesel motor homes that are on sale by private owners. Purchase a well-maintained unit and invest in some upgrades. Remodeled pre-owned vehicles showcase a beautiful blending of creativity, innovation, and workmanship. If you are not conversant with the nitty-gritty of automobiles, outsource the task to a company specializing in RV remodeling.  They have the expertise to do it right.
