5 Car Technologies Improving the Safety for Drivers Everywhere

Car accidents are costly. They cause massive financial losses and can even result in the loss of life.
This is why most major brands are continually working to improve safety features and upgrade safety technology in all their products. The following are some of the best features that can prevent accidents and injuries from happening.

1. Lane Departure Warning

Different reasons can cause an unintentional departure of a vehicle from its lane. From swerving to avoid a biker or debris to simply not paying proper attention, drivers often cross lines they normally wouldn’t. Chief among these is a lack of concentration by the person behind the wheel. This reason alone is one of the leading causes of commercial trucking accidents. Having a system that will warn the driver that the vehicle is departing from its current one can prevent an accident from happening. Other lane departure systems can return the car to the lane without input from the driver.

2. Front Collision Warning

Front collisions, also known as fender benders, are common accidents. The causes might include a driver keeping too little distance between their vehicle and the one in front, and excessive speeding. A front collision warning system or object detection can detect when there is an imminent collision, and warn the driver about it. The driver can then make the necessary changes such as changing lanes or reducing speed.

3. Emergency Brake Assist

The emergency brake assist feature can detect when the driver is not applying brakes quick enough in a situation of urgency. The system will compensate by applying them faster. Not only can it prevent accidents from happening, but it can reduce the severity of one if a crash occurs.

4. Adaptive Headlights

Adaptive headlights are an innovative feature coming into a lot of different models. The lights can pivot in a direction similar to where the wheels are facing. For example, if you are taking a right they will turn to illuminate the right side. Statistics show that many accidents happen in these dark curves. There is hope that the adaptive headlights will help to decrease that number.

5. Tire Pressure Monitoring

An over inflated or under inflated tire is a disaster waiting to happen. Both can cause a tire burst, and could cause a serious accident. Having a tire pressure monitoring system will prevent accidents and keep you up to date on the status of your car maintenance. The system will warn the driver when it detects an incorrect air pressure in the tires.

Technology has great potential to improve car safety.
Some of the newest innovations are working to improve car maintenance, security, and safety features, all of which are an essential step in avoiding accidents.
