5 Best Ways To Sell A Car That Doesn’t Run

We all sometimes find ourselves staring at certain decisions without knowing what to do. It might be which college to enroll in, or whether or not to buy a new house, but the big decision for car lovers is what to do with a car that doesn't run anymore. It's stressful, especially if you're emotionally tied to your car or don't want to bother with repairs. You don't know what to do so you ask your friends - they all have different ideas and opinions, and in the end you're still not sure what the right move is. Well, today’s your lucky day, as I have some very useful tips for you and your junk or damaged car.

Repair it

Now, you may have lost hope in your car and have no desire to drive it again because you fear it might fail you once again. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't repair it, get it to a working condition and sell it afterwards. It's a lot easier to sell a car that a person can actually drive off in than the one that needs to be towed. Think about it - a few repairs here and there, a nice wash or detail and your car looks pretty decent.

In this case, and the others, the most important thing is to gather all the details about your car such as the year it was made, and all the specifics. The person you're selling it to will ask you questions about it, and it's in your best interest to know how to answer.

Donate it

This is the option for those who feel generous and would like to help out others. There are many charities out there willing to take your junk car. Helping others is the kindest thing a person can do and, if you opt for this, you will definitely feel good about yourself. While you won't actually earn any money if you decide to donate your car, you will however be able to get a tax break.

This option is not for everyone, as some people just can't afford it. I did this once, as I was financially stable at the time, but the second time around - I went with the following option.

Junk yard car buyer

This is the most financially sound option. There are people out there who specialize in dealing with your situation. They tow away your junk car and you get paid right there on the spot. There are two very good benefits with this options. First being that they tow away your car for free, saving you some money right there, and the second is that they will take your car even if it's in a pretty bad shape. I chose this the second time around and did not regret it.

Recycle it

This option is a combination of the previous two. You can tow your car to a scrapyard where it will be recycled. You get paid, but you're also recycling, so you're doing some good for the environment. Now, this option's positive side is that it brings you money while at the same time you're doing a selfless act. The negative side, however, is that you have to pay to tow your car. As they pay by the pound, calculate how much you'll earn before you decide on this option, as the towing itself can be expensive and the whole deal might not be worth it. Another thing to keep in mind if you opt for recycling is that you have to be sure to remove all your possessions from the car, as there's no way to get them back once it’s scrapped.

Sell it for parts

This last option might be the best one if you have a damaged, and not simply just an old car. If your car was in an accident and damaged beyond repair, you're still left with some good parts. Be smart and don't let them go to waste. Go online, search through car forums, Ebay and similar sites and sell it part by part. While the front portion of the car may be totaled, some parts in the back are definitely salvageable and in good condition.

All in all, it depends on your willingness, energy and money you’re willing to invest, and your financial state. Sit down, think it over, re-read my tips and decide on the best option for you. I know you'll make the right choice.
