Why Automotive Mobile Marketing is So Important [Infographic]

The good folks of Microsoft Tag prepared a neat infographic to illustrate the world of mobile marketing and why this (mobile) channel is so important. Here are the highlights:

  • Of the world’s 4 billion mobile phones in use, 1.08 billion (27%) are smartphones and 3.05 billion (75%) are SMS enabled. By 2014, mobile Internet should take over desktop Internet usage.
  • 86% of mobile Internet users are using their devices while watching TV.
  • 29% of mobile users areopen to scanning a mobile tag to get coupons.
  • 91% of mobile Internet access is to socilize, compared to 79% on desktops.
  • People use their mobile phones for Games (61%), weather (55%), maps/search (50%),social networking (49%), music (42%), news (36%), entertainment (33%), dining (25%), video (21%).
  • Over 1/3 of Facebook’s 600 million+ user base uses Facebook Mobile. Twitter has 165 million users – 50% of them use Twitter Mobile.
  • More than 200 million YouTube views occur on mobile devices per day

Michelle, agreed, it should be as automotive oriented as possible. However, that's not always possible. What Joe is doing is showing an infograph from Microsoft Tag on Mobile Marketing, just in general. There are times when you have to take that data and use it to the best of your ability, but I agree, if possible this specific site should always have an automotive slant. These are big picture statistics.

This is great data, but I am left with this question: Where is automotive mentioned? Now before you pounce on me, go back and look. (Go ahead and look.) The term automotive is in the title and the tags...

Thanks Joe. I agree with the premise with which I believe you posted: Automotive mobile marketing IS SO IMPORTANT because as we can all read/see/live 'mobile is everywhere'. I only wish the infographic contained some hard AUTOMOTIVE MOBILE MARKETING DATA. (How many ups are pulled back into the dealership with SMS? What is the average ROI experienced by a dealership using an app, a mobile website or SMS? What is the ROI dealer's promotion when use of a mobile marketing combo of SMS/QR Code + direct mail? I really want some AUTOMOTIVE meat and potatoes, here...here...and here.

Again, overall, these are great points to know and as Michael Goldstein said, "This helps dealerships...".

Yes Michael. A BDC + a good CRM and qualified individuals to maintain them, with foresight and a vision of the future.

This is good info. This helps dealerships (who don't already) start looking at other metrics, other than the archaic (phone calls and emails), to gauge their overall results, ROI, traffic, leads, etc. Mobile is a tidal wave of changing consumer behavior that dealers need to really start looking at. Companies as well, need to quickly find a way to put a value to mobile traffic and pinpoint that traffic to ROI for the dealerships. It is not all on the dealerships to make this data work
