10 Significant Things in the History of Peace and Prosperity and why 2012 will be AMAZING!

A recent event has occurred that some may have missed but I, being an astute student and teacher of trends, signs, conditions, Ouija, SEO and total guesswork, have noticed. A rare occurrence in both space and time that will rank at the top of important events in automotive history, ahead of Henry Ford's assembly line, in front of front wheel drive, even more important than JD Powers inventing the words "customer service" and convincing the…

Updated Information on Google Places and Reviews

Google Places Review Issues

Over the last year (plus) there have been numerous hypotheses shared regarding Google Places and the practice of customers entering reviews while still in the dealership or business. The crux of the discussion was whether or not Google was blocking reviews from a common IP address because of the possibility of gaming the system or as some have suggested, because a customer might feel “pressured” if asked to do this review while still at the business location.

Many…

Google Plus Business Pages...set up concern

Just a quick thought...when setting up a page be careful who is setting it up as there is no way to make multiple Admins...yet. When Google says "coming soon" we should be nervous. Not sure why they would roll this out without addressing this issue, but then again... here is a link to the subject Google Help. Hope it does.

More experimenting at Google Places/Maps

Not much of what one would consider a significant change, but many people are reporting that Maps is is showing up on the right side of the page, above the sponsored ads instead of the normal left side of the page.  Just an FYI to continually be on the look out for updates and opportunities...Here is a screen shot of one example:…

Santorum-the frothy mix of lube and...

What is your opinion of Rick Santorum's demand that Google remove the offensive definition of his name that sits on page one, position one, ahead of the "real" result for a search of his name?

Santorum asks Google to clean up search results for his name…

Automobile Industry - NOT the Most Hated!!

Notice the Automobile Industry finished out of the top 10... a good thing. Not surprising the Federal Government is at the top of the list. The Computer Industry and the Internet Industry received a lot of love - #1 and #3. Maybe if dealerships were more "Tech savvy" and "Digital" with how they did business or communicated, customers would like them more... hmmmm. Maybe I'll spend some time working on that idea.…

Google Eats Their Organic Search Results

An interesting article highlighting the SEO challenges that we will continue to face from our competitors...only this time it appears the "competitor" may be named Google...let's hope that our industry does not face this type of issue as Google evolves it's "Trusted Stores" and other "Market Place" strategies. It is conceivable that somewhere in the not so distant future, new and used…

Google Places for Business Questions and Ideas

I think that most people would agree that Google Places has been a bit of a challenge for business owners from the standpoint that there are constant changes, no real contacts at Google to talk to, and difficult and slow processes for verifications and updates to a Places page.  Even Google has said that they are trying to do a better job of…

Another Google feature change on the horizon or just more testing?

Here's an interesting article on a possible shift in how Google displays results. This move would be similar to what they already do in image search and it would more than likely improve the user experience, which Google has been focusing on heavily as of late.

I would think that while a lot of people don't click through to page two, it is very possible that they would scroll to view 15-20+ results…

What have you done lately to promote the (positive) reputation of our industry?

Saw this come across one of my 364 alerts...

This 82 year old veteran used car dealer is still concerned about how our industry is viewed in Maine and beyond. Although his idea may not be revolutionary or a home run at the end of the day, I think we could offer up a "Thank You" for the thought and effort that this dealer has put in on our behalf.

Perhaps we could all look inward and ask "what have we done lately" to promote the positive side and (positive)…

Character limitations in blog posts

Just a quick fyi for all...the current character count limit is 2000. Ning is saying that it is an issue that they are addressing. That was as of Feb 10.  I am trying to find out more and if I can will let everyone know.

QR Codes-one idea for your dealership.

There has been some sporadic talk of QR codes and the applications/scenarios that may or may not work in dealerships, and I’m sure that soon enough there will be plenty that do, but for now I wanted to share a really inexpensive idea that can get the ball rolling and create additional digital awareness for your sales and management team.

The following is a step-by-step process to create a QR Code for each salesperson that links back to a review site. …

I'm sick to my stomach over what all of the "dealer centric" vendors are doing to an unnamed dealership "who has 100,000 plus views of a video roasting them on youtube".

Hey vendors-congrats on supporting the consumer advocate group that is trying to promote their own agenda at the expense of this poor dealer.

By now the dealer has been outed, and I will not contribute, as so many of you have at the expense of the dealer, in order to make yourself look like an "answer bank" on reputation mgt and how important it is not to piss off a customer.........really???...... no kidding...do you think that a dealer who has invested MILLIONS of dollars in a… Continue
